Yeah. The three most important things a man needs when starting his day. Now, those are words to live by.

Dominic sits on the edge of a bench under the awning at The Tin Can. He draws in a deep breath. The combined smells of oil, burnt paper, and gunpowder - mixed with a hint of lust - fills his nose. The aroma is almost as tantalizing as sex itself.

Down the grassy null from where he’s sitting, he spies Troy Tekin, the owner of The Tin Can Firing Range. He’s making his way up the steep steps, and he’s not alone. No. Jasmine Martinez is with him. His wolf's ears picked up their voices long before their bodies were visible.

A smile creeps across Dominic’s face. The little vixen is wearing a blue jean mini-skirt, a low cut wrap around top, and red cowgirl boots. A look he most definitely approves of. But it’s not as if his opinion matters. No. This little spitfire doesn’t care what others think, including him. Hell. Just the mere thought of telling the woman what to wear would more than likely incite a war. But, hey, it might be worth it because the make-up sex would be one hell of a ride.

When she approaches, he rises and meets them at the end of the long, narrow awning.

Hey. Troy Tekin extends a hand. I haven’t seen you here for a while.

Yeah. Dominic clasps Troy’s hand. The man’s shake is firm, honest, just like the man. Eli’s been keeping me busy.

Just Eli? Troy cracks a grin, then turns to Jasmine. Have fun but be safe. He turns and heads back the way he came. If you guys need anything, just use the intercom, he says over his shoulder.

Dominic waves him off, then turns his attention to Jasmine. I haven’t seen those candy red apple boots before.

There new. You like them?

His eyes skim up and down the length of her body. Yeah. Almost as much as I like that skirt. A wolfish grin spreads across his face.

She leans into him and kisses his cheek. Is it the skirt or what’s under it you like?

He licks his lips. Hmm . . . both because I’d sure as hell enjoy peeling that skirt off your body.

We’ll see how the day goes. She winks, then walks up to the table. Do you own all these?

Jasmine points at the weapons spread out.

Yeah. He picks up the Beretta Nano 9mm pistol.

The profile is smooth, and it has a reversible magazine release, a feature he’s come to appreciate, along with the snag-free design that makes it the perfect weapon to carry. The light in his zone is green, which means he’s free to fire at will. But he checks his surroundings, ensures the firing field is clear, and then opens his stance.

He cradles the grip of the gun in the palm of his hand. His finger rests just outside the trigger guard. He takes a deep breath, spots his target less than twenty-five feet away, exhales slowly, and then he fires two rounds. The familiar smell of oil, burnt paper, and gunpowder fills his nose. It’s a comforting scent. One he’ll never grow tired of.

You almost hit the bull’s eye. Jasmine’s sitting at the table. Both shots are just outside of the circle. She’s holding a pair of binoculars up to her eyes. What are these for? It’s not as if we need them for that target.

For long range firing. I brought a rifle. He taps a black case with the tip of his boot. Want to give this one a try?

Sure. She rises. But what do I get if I hit the red center of the bull’s eye?

He chuckles. If you can hit the target, you can have whatever you want.

Fine. If I hit it, you have to take me to Jake Audet’s restaurant opening. Jasmine pauses. I hear Audet’s Fine Cuisine is going to be a swanky place. And just so you know, you’ll have to wear a tie and suit. She walks up next to him. You got one of those, pretty boy?

If you hit that target, I’ll rent a tux. He eases behind her. This is the safety. He puts his finger on the lever. Safety on. He slides his finger to the side. Safety off. The gun is hot now. When you’re ready-

You do realize this isn’t my first rodeo, right? Jasmine palms the pistol. Step back and give me room, lover boy.

Dominic takes a step back. His eyes take in her form.

Jasmine checks the weapon by first removing the magazine. She locks the slide to the rear and then peers into the chamber of the ejection port.

Nice. Jasmine continues to examine the handgun with an astute eye. You keep it clean. She chambers the magazine and readies the firearm.

Jasmine turns to the target. She slides her feet out a bit wider than shoulder width. Her legs, slightly bent, indicate her body weight is on the balls of her feet. Back straight and head erect, she brings the weapon up to eye level. She holds her arms out in front of her. Taking a breath, she exhales, slowly.

Dominic’s inner wolf can hear the steady, slow beat of her heart. Her calmness surprises him, but not near as much as her understanding of the weapon. Apparently, she knows her way around firearms. The crack of
