    Night Heat Part 3 - E.J. Adams

    Chapter 1

Five minutes, Kendra, Marty said to me, holding out his right hand to display his five fingers.

Okay, Marty, I said. I was excited because Marty was letting me help him block out the next scene. He had been going over some finer points of shooting on location versus being on the studio soundstage.

Marty’s five minute call gave me just enough time to finish my tea. The catering tent was pretty full as crew members took time between the filming of scenes.

My cell phone rang. It was Chad, which brought a smile to my face. Hi Chad, I said, answering.

    Kendra, we need to talk.

    Is everything okay?

I have been thinking of you, he said. I just really want to see you and talk about Friday night.

Okay, I said. Marty needs me on set in five minutes, so we will probably need to wait until we are done filming for the evening.

That’s fine, Chad replied. Let’s meet up when we wrap for the day. I’ll take you for a late dinner.

Ooh, I said. I’ve had a craving for an In-N-Out burger.

Sounds good. Why don’t we meet at my car when we finish up later?

    It’s a date, I said.

    See you later.

Chad ended the call. At first I was concerned. ‘We need to talk’ is almost never a good thing. But everything seemed fine. I think Chad was just missing me and excited about finalizing plans for Friday evening. It was sweet.

I finished my tea and headed to meet Marty. We would be filming a car chase scene along the canyon road where we were set up. While I mostly took care of a lot of little things to help Marty move filming along, he made sure to leave time to mentor me. In many respects, being Marty’s assistant was like being in a masterclass on directing.

After half an hour of setting up, we were ready to begin filming the scene. Chad came on set with Earl Jackson, one of Chad’s co-stars on Night Heat. Earl played the police captain. We filmed their dialogue standing near Chad’s car on the show. Next we moved to the chase scene, where stunt drivers did most of the driving.

It only took two takes to get everything the way Marty wanted. He watched a playback of the scene on the monitor near his chair and was satisfied. That’s a wrap for today, Marty called out. I was glad because my stomach was rumbling for a burger.

Chad was leaning against the front of his car as I approached. When you lean against your car, it is hard to separate you from your character on the show, I said.

Except I wouldn’t do half the things in my car that they do with the replica car on the show.

I would hope not. Those are professional drivers we have on set.

We wrapped our arms around each other and Chad kissed me gently on the lips. How about we get that In-N-Out burger? Chad said after our kiss.

Yes, please. I’m so hungry I am going to get the triple triple.

    Chad looked at me
