Night Heat Part 2 - E.J. Adams
Chapter 1
I stepped out of the shower, dried, and wrapped a towel around me. Hope was standing in the hallway when I opened the bathroom door. She smiled at me. I blushed. Sounded like fun,
she said.
How much did you hear?
I asked. And what were you doing listening at the door?
I only heard the very end, but it sounded great. And I wasn’t listening at the door. I was heading to my room and could hear you. You are a screamer.
I stepped around Hope and headed toward my bedroom. Can we please not talk about this? Ever?
No judgment,
Hope called after me as I went into my bedroom. We’ve all been there. But we do need to get you a man.
I closed my door and leaned against it. It wasn’t so much I was embarrassed about Hope hearing me. Okay, yes, I was a little embarrassed. But Hope was my best friend. We shared pretty much everything about our lives. What bothered me was how much I wanted Chad Austin.
After the way he treated me earlier, I felt I had no business wanting anything to do with him. Certainly not to the point of fantasizing about him in the shower. Or anyplace else, for that matter. I guess that is what I was embarrassed about; wanting Chad to the point of my steamy fantasy.
I pushed away from the door, dropped my towel, and looked in my closet. I decided on a cute pair of skinny jeans and a slim-fit Old Navy tee. Hope knocked at my bedroom door. Can I come in?
she called through the closed door.
Yes. I’m not mad at you.
Hope opened the door and stepped into my room. I did text that I was on my way home,
she informed me. You were . . .
Hope’s voice trailed off, not wanting to go down the path of bringing up my shower scene.
I know,
I said.
I like the jeans and tee,
Hope commented. Very cute.
Thanks.
I pulled my hair dryer out of one of my dresser drawers.
But we need go shopping and find some sexy little dresses for tonight,
Hope announced.
You just said my outfit was cute.
It is. You are. But we need sexy. Seductive, even. We are on a mission to find you a man for a good time.
I rolled my eyes at Hope. Not so much in disagreement, but out of reluctance to find some random guy to hook up with. I plugged in my hair dryer and dried my hair. Hope waited me out.
When I finished, Hope padded across my bedroom and placed her hands on my shoulders. Sweetie, you need it bad,
she said to me. And don’t even try to deny that fact.
I do. And I won’t,
I said. But I’ve never been one to hook up with random men. You know that.
True,
Hope said, nodding her head in agreement. But maybe you need to loosen up on that a bit. Sex with an actual man is much better than,
she paused a beat. Well, we don’t need to say it.
No. We don’t.
I sighed. "I’ll agree to a new dress, but I am
