The Bet

Josh had only been attending summer classes at his local high school for one day and was already surprised to find that it wasn’t nearly as terrible as he’d thought it was going to be. For starters, the days were much shorter. Classes began two hours later than the regular school year had and got out an hour earlier. The workload was lighter as well.

The shorter days meant Josh only had two classes, Science and English, and there was never any homework. The homework of regular school had been the primary reason that Josh had failed enough classes that he needed to catch up on credits in the first place. It’s not that he was stupid or even particularly lazy. Josh just tended to be incredibly unfocused.

Concentrating on the tedious and dull assignments when he was actually at school without any distractions was difficult enough but at home, there was always something to take his mind off of the monotony of life. Whether it was video games, comics, or everything the internet had to offer, Josh always found something better to be doing.

Beyond just the short hours and lack of homework, Josh had another reason to not hate and actually love the summer session. The best part of the whole experience was that, on the very first day, Josh made a new best friend.
