William sat quietly across from the secretary on an uncomfortable bench, his hands folded in his lap as he waited. Occasionally the secretary would glance up at him with a blank stare, then look right back down at her paperwork with the same exact face. William fidgeted in his seat uncomfortably, wondering if his luck had suddenly gone sour and this upcoming meeting with the artists and repertoire executive was just a fancy way of saying, Sorry, kid, you’re SOL.

To be fair, ever since William’s new manager Trixie had gotten the singer a meeting with one of Aphroditus Records’ A&R executives, his excitement at the prospect of being signed to a major label had been punctuated with a sick anxiety. The secretary’s phone rang, penetrating the awkward silence.
