    The Best Plan Ever

    ‘What?’ Adit yells, his eyes wide and his voice high-pitched.

    ‘Which part of Daddy and I are going to visit Aunty Sheila, and we are leaving you with Nana and Nani for a few days did you not understand?’ Zara asks, not even bothering to contain her excitement at this new development.

    ‘It’s just for four days, Adit,’ Mummy replies, glaring down at Zara.

    ‘What about Lucky?’ Zara asks.

    ‘Woof! Woof! Woof!’ I say, standing up on my back paws, putting my front ones on Zara, and turning my head up towards the fan. It really is so hot in here! I’m panting, and I haven’t been running anywhere.

    ‘Well, Nani said she would take care of her too. So, she will be going with you,’ Mummy replies. I run over to Mummy and jump on her lap. Whatever this is, I’m included in it. I wag my tail and give her a few licks.

    But then I jump down. It’s even hotter on her lap than on the floor!

    ‘That’s awesome, Mummy,’ Zara beams.

    ‘It is. But it’s also the first time we are leaving both of you with them for so long. Zara, I will need your help here,’ Mummy says, fanning herself and looking up at the ceiling.

    ‘You know I’m responsible. Chill, Mummy. It’s not like we are toddlers or anything. He’s eight. I’m twelve. We can take care of ourselves and of Lucky too,’ Zara replies.

    ‘Why Aunty Sheila, Mummy?’ Adit asks. ‘She’s my favourite aunt, Adit. Growing up, I have lots of fun memories with her. In fact, just like you are going to Nana and Nani’s this summer holidays, I used to go to Aunty Sheila’s house and spend part
