Jingle Bells
Something’s going on! The energy! The excitement! It all feels different. Something’s definitely going on. What is it?
Daddy seems to be walking faster, Zara seems to be talking louder, and Adit seems to be eating more. Mummy is almost always singing or humming, and it’s like she’s doing everything all at once – ALL the time!
Outside, cars seem to be honking more – much more. And it feels like it’s cooler. It’s definitely not as hot as it was two months ago, when we celebrated Diwali.
‘Woof! Woof! Woof?’ I ask Mummy.
‘… In a one-horse open sleigh!’ Mummy sings, eyes twinkling.
Zara walks by just as this happens. ‘Mummy goes a bit bonkers in the Christmas season, Lucky. Forgive her,’ she says, patting my head and giving me a quick kiss.
‘… Laughing all the way!’ Mummy sings extra loud, squinting her eyes and pointing a finger at Zara. She looks at Zara like she might be in trouble. But then Mummy throws her head back and laughs.
It’s all very confusing. I wag my tail at Mummy but decide to leave her for a while and follow Zara instead. Mummy sounds just a little screechy. I can hear her singing ‘Jingle bells, jingle bells …’ as I trail behind Zara.
I hope Mummy calms down soon. I really don’t know what to make of her.
Zara goes to her bedroom, and just as she flops down on her bed, Mummy calls out, ‘Zara! Adit! Come! Let’s bring the boxes down from the loft! The decorations! It’s that time of the year!’
