    Introduction

Congratulations on downloading Wicca Herbal Magic  and thank you for doing so.

Herbal magic is one of the best ways to incorporate love plants and gardening into your journey into Wiccan spellcraft and spirituality. Plants not only embody the four magical elements, but they are also the direct result of the energy from the God and Goddess. When we use them in our magic, they increase the potency of our own abilities triple-fold.

Plants have been used for medicine and magic for thousands of years. Now with many of us seeking to return to ‟greener" ways of living; learning to cultivate and use herbs from our own garden, container, or window ledge has become an important interest and goal for many Wiccans and pagans. It only makes sense to grow our own plants and immerse ourselves more thoroughly into the cycle of life, the magic of the God and the Goddess, and the Wheel of the Year.

The following chapters will discuss the history and origins of the modern religion of Wicca, as well as how to care for and cultivate magical herbs. In addition, the Wiccan Sabbaths will be discussed, as well as the magical phases of the moon, and when it’s best to time your spells, so they coincide with these seasons and lunar phases.

An entire chapter is devoted to magical herbal recipes and herbal spells. At the end of the book, a thorough glossary of magic herbs is included, giving you a go-to resource when you’re ready to create your own herbal magic spells.

There are plenty of books on this subject on the market, so thanks again for choosing this one! Every effort was made to ensure it is full of as much useful information as possible. Please enjoy!

Chapter 1: An Introduction to Wicca

    halanna-halila-1492455-unsplash

Wicca is one of the fastest-growing religions in the world, with its practitioners charting a modern course of faith using fragmented accountings from ancient knowledge, the wisdom of their own elders, as well as pure intuition and imagination. Wicca was born in the 40s, though the oldest ‟modern" book on the craft was written in 1899 about the goddess Diana. While it can be hard to estimate the number of a group of people who prefer to keep to themselves, a survey from 2008 revealed there are (at least) over 300,000 practicing Wiccans in the world. Today, the number is far greater.

One of the things that attract people the most to Wicca is the personal freedom it provides. Wiccans do not judge others based on gender, sexuality, skin color or background—in fact, many are loathed to judge anyone at all, believing their path is their own and the Rule of Three takes care of whatever it needs to. What is the Rule of Three? Also known as the Law of Return, it is the concept that any action you put into the universe will return to you, three times as powerful as what you sent out. The Rule of Three is the Wiccan and pagan version of karma.

Wicca itself is one branch of neo-paganism, which are Earth-centered religions that worship a God and Goddess and live their lives by the seasons and the phases of the moon. Wicca is an especially gentle pagan religion that encourages its followers to live as peacefully and harmoniously as possible with the natural world, humans being included in that world. Another tenet of Wicca is called ‟The Wiccan Rede. It states that you may ‟Do what you will, that it harm none.

    Myths and Misconceptions about Wicca

Of course, being a minority religion in a world of Judeo-Christian faiths is never easy. The biggest myth regarding Wicca is it’s somehow a satanic cult. This could not be farther from the truth: Wiccans and other pagans do not recognize Satan as a deity. Satan as a concept was created by the Roman Catholic church as a means to pry people away from their ancient, pagan traditions and lure them into the Christian fold. Even the word pagan, much misunderstood, comes from the Latin paganus and simply means ‟of the countryside."

The pagan symbol of the pentacle has also been misinterpreted as a symbol of evil. This is not true. ‟Right side" up, the pentagram represents two things: one, the image of a human being, standing tall with arms outstretched, and two, a representation of the magical elements of Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit.

‟Upside down," the pentagram represents the natural world, as symbolized by a horned being. The Horned God, also known as Herne, or the Green Man, is akin to a spiritual shepherd and protector of the beasts of the forest and field. Wiccans strive to live in unity with the natural world, and not suppress it.

Another misconception is that Wiccans ‟cast spells to have power over other people. The word ‟witch is a powerful word and concept and carries with it a stigma among non-pagans. The etymology of the word witch (as well as the modern word Wicca) can be traced
