Chapter 1: World of Wicca
What many people all around the world don't understand is that Wicca is an actual religion, also known as 'Benevolent Witchcraft', 'The Old Religion', and 'The Craft'. This ancient craft is a part of our modern paganism or is also known as nature spirituality.
Paganism is a name for those who follow a religion or practice which is not Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, or Hinduism. The Wiccan religion is a part of Paganism along with Pantheists, Heathens, Goddess Spirituality folk, Ecofeminist, Unitarian Universalist Pagans, Animists, Druids, ChristoPagans, and any other Nature related spirituality practices.
But within those religions, there are a variety of groups, all with different purpose, practices, size, orientation, structure, and symbology. There are many different types of practices within the Wiccan religion, such as Shamanic, Alexandrian, British Traditionalist, Gardnerian, Faerie, Hereditary or Family tradition, Celtic, Circle Crat, Dianic, Eclectic Craft, and many other paths and traditions.
Certain of those groups have other different specific practices and groups. Some of the Wiccan religion groups are initiatory, while there are others who are not. Many of those initiatory practices vary from different traditions; several of those groups have initiations by spiritual helpers, teachers, groups, and deities within dreams, visions, and vigils quests.
There are many differences between a variety of groups and religions, but they all respect and love Nature. Many seek to live in peace and harmony with the world and the ecosystem around them. Many practitioners are able to communicate and become friends with many plants, animals, and spirits that occupy the Earth along with us. They even honor the natural cycles of nature, such as the new moon and the full moon. Many love to perform rituals during these times, harnessing the energy of the element of earth. Those who follow the Wiccan religion are referred to as 'witches'.
In this Wiccan religion and other Paganism religions, it’s a belief that every human, stream, animal, rock, tree, and other forms of nature possess a Divine Spirit located within. This is why in many traditions, apart from Paganism, they have a monotheistic dimension in which there is only one Divine God that they worship. In Paganism and some other traditions, they have a polytheistic dimension in which there are a variety of Divine forms including Gods, Goddesses, and many other spiritual forces. Nature and the universe play a big role in the way the Wiccan religion is shaped.
In 1973, there was a group of 73 representatives, all from different Wiccan traditions and paths which decided to gather together. They met in Minneapolis to form numerous statements and principles that were then used to harmonize and unite many Wiccan traditions. That group called themselves the 'Council of American Witches’ lead by Carl Llewellyn Weschcke. Together, they created the '13 principles' that are to this day still endorsed by many Wiccans all around the world, not just American ones.
Principle 1: We practice rites to attune ourselves with the natural rhythm of life forces marked by the phases of the moon and the seasonal quarters and cross-quarters.
This principle
