About this ebook

Sometimes your heart is searching for the right key….

Ava visits her most favourite place in the world - Murphy's Pianos. She goes there almost everyday to try the new and old pianos just to get away from her work as a piano teacher. One day, Ava is shown a piano that has just arrived in the store that would turn her world upside down.

She is thrown into a world of love and loss as she plays a song on the piano. She meets a man named John, with whom she has a strong connection from the first moment they look at each other.

But the longer she stays away, or the longer she stays with him, the more time and her future changes.

Not only is she confused, but she is overwhelmed by emotion, a desire. Until one day, the piano that allows her passage to John is sold to another before she has the chance to buy it herself.

Can she find this piano that has filled a void and opened her heart and senses?  Or is she destined to yearn for another forever and never feel his warmth?

    Chapter One - The Piano

It was a cool morning , near the end of February. The streets were not so busy at this time of day, as those who were to wake for work had not done so just yet. Or, they may have just been standing alone in their quiet kitchens, brewing tea or coffee, just about to rise as the world did.

Ava was, by this time, already out walking on the footpath. She enjoyed the brisk air. It was just cool enough for her to not wear a coat, but she wore a scarf tight to her neck. Ava yawned, tiredness creeping up on her lightly.

She was heading toward her favourite store. Many would say it should be a clothing boutique, or maybe a jewellery store, but no. Ava was entranced by a single store. It was nestled deep in an alley, off the main city street. She went there just to get away from it all. It was rustic, and cosy, and all the things that Ava craved in her life. A piano store, open for short hours every day. She visited almost every afternoon, just to sit and listen to the customers play, or even to play herself. But she played at home almost every day. Generally there though, she was accompanied by a student of hers, playing a tune so poorly that she would only be reminded of how much work she had to do with them. The piano store was a quiet place for her practice without the annoyance of anyone else, or the annoyance of her own apartment. If she played at home, all she would see were things that needed to be done.

Ava’s shoes gently tapped on the concrete. Scooped in her right hand was a small heap of music sheets, and in the other a takeaway cup of tea. She wasn’t in a rush, but she looked as if she could be. Today was her only day off this week, and she wanted to spend it doing the only thing she loved as of recently. The sting of the cool air smacked into her cheeks, making this a soft peachy colour, as she made her way down the quiet city streets. Only now did she slightly regret not bringing a coat. But she knew once she got inside of the piano store, she would feel cosy and warm. It always had a heater on, near the back, and it filled the whole store with a warm touch.

Ava sipped at her tea. She couldn’t wait until winter was over. She didn’t drive, so walking everywhere in winter was sometimes a challenge. Her nose was blushed a soft pink as she rounded the corner and stepped into an even quieter alleyway. Here, no one walked. You’d be lucky to find anyone enter, especially this early. As she came into the alley, she saw a familiar face placing a tall, wooden sign out onto the pavement. It was Noah, the piano store owner. As she wandered down the lane, she read the sign. In magnificent white chalk, it read:

    Murphy’s Pianos

New and pre-owned pianos in store!

    Newest shipment arrived yesterday!

Ava smiled at the sign, noting that there would be new pianos for her to play with. She generally preferred the pre-owned ones. They always seemed to have more history to them, and the keys cried more tastefully than those of which had never been played. Now with a skip in
