Connor Whiteley

Hello, I'm Connor Whiteley, I am an 18-year-old who loves to write creatively, and I wrote my Brownsea trilogy when I was 14 years old after I went to Brownsea Island on a scout camp. At the camp, I started to think about how all the broken tiles and pottery got there and somehow a trilogy got created. Moreover, I love writing fantasy and sci-fi novels because you’re only limited by your imagination. In addition, I'm was an Explorer Scout and I love camping, sailing and other outdoor activities as well as cooking.Furthermore, I do quite a bit of charity work as well. For example: in early 2018 I was a part of a youth panel which was involved in creating a report with research to try and get government funding for organised youth groups and through this panel. I was invited to Prince Charles’ 70th birthday party and how some of us got in the royal photograph. Finally, I am going to university and I hope to get my doctorate in clinical psychology in a few years.

    Leadership - Connor Whiteley

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

Thank you to all my readers for their continued support as without you I couldn’t do what I love.

    introduction

‘LEADERS ARE NOT BORN. They are made. Through choice or accident. They are made’

    -Connor Whiteley

Sorry to quote myself everyone but I wanted to start this book a bit differently.

Especially, before we explore the deep topic of leadership and what makes a good leader because this; at least traditionally; is a heavy laborious topic.

However, I fully intend to break this topic down for you in an easy to understand and engaging way.

As a result, even though I am a business owner and an author entrepreneur; more on that in the next section; I hate business books.

I truly hate them... unless they are done in an engaging, informal and self-help-y way.

Consequently, this book will be no exception to the above. I would only ever write a book that I myself would read.

Let’s get on with the topic then...

    What is leadership?

Leadership is a vital aspect of the business world in today’s business landscape, because the ability to lead people regardless of setting whether it’s in a job, school setting or volunteering environment is a crucial skill. That will set you apart from other people.

Most probably resulting in an increased likelihood of being hired or being promoted to a new rank or job role.

Overall, leadership according to the Oxford dictionary is: ‘the ability to be a leader or the qualities a good leader should have’

The dictionary never fails to surprise me about how unhelpful it is, so my own definition is that leadership is the ability of a person to effectively lead a group of people in order to successfully complete the needed task.

This need can range from tasks set by the boss in a work setting, a school project or it can even be a volunteering project.

Why should I care about leadership?

As briefly touched upon in the previous section having leadership skills can be incredibly useful in today’s super competitive job market. Allowing you to progress further up the job ladder compare to those with no or poorer leadership skills compared to you.

    Purpose of the book:

The purpose of this book is to help you realise what leadership skills are needed to be a good leader as well as tips on how to develop these skills.

Therefore, please join me on a journey of discovery as together we explore the interesting world of leadership...

who am i? why listen to me?

    WHO AM I?

What right do I have to write this book?

Personally, I find this quite funny because I will fully admit I am no posh rich CEO of a million pounds
