CHAPTER ONE
Ebony
Try and relax! Ebony pushed her toes deeper into the warm sand, letting the heat fill her body as the soothing sound of waves crashed in front of her. Her daughter rested in the car from the long day at the beach. The last seven years had been the most stressful and rewarding times of her life as she raised her little girl on her own.
She glanced back at Alisha; her red hair pressed against her face as her mouth hung open. Snores vibrating from her lips as she slept off the day; Jelly on her chin from dinner. When Ebony was seven months along, the man she loved had died, leaving Ebony alone with their child. She pushed her hands through her long hair so the breeze would catch it.
This whole trip had been meant as a reward for herself and her little girl. A memory besides the usual go-to-work-and-come-home days. Well, at least, a happy memory before Ebony met her fate with death in a few months. She shivered when the memory of the doctor’s prognosis filled her mind. Five months of life if she’s lucky, and Ebony didn’t see her luck changing two months after she heard the news.
Ebony closed her eyes and took in a deep breath to try and balance herself. When she opened them to look at the ocean one more time, a large man blocked her view.
Hello, sexy.
The guy’s voice was deep, sending shivers down Ebony’s spine.
I was just leaving.
She took a step back, but the man’s hand wrapped tight around her wrist, his nails dug into her flesh, making her bleed onto the sand below.
I wanted your company since you’re all alone.
I’m not alone. My husband is almost done with his usual run.
She pointed toward the pier to the south, lying through her teeth.
I’ve been watching you for hours. You’re all alone, honey.
He leaned in close, her stomach dropped and her skin turned cold. She was used to fighting off creeps everywhere, but this guy was so much bigger than the sleaze bags she normally dealt with.
Let go of me.
She tried to shake her hand out of the guy’s grip but failed miserably. If this guy tried to take her, Alisha would be alone in the car. There was no way she would leave her daughter without a fight. He released her hand, but before she could move away, he grabbed her hips and pushed her against the hood of her car. Do I yell and try to get help, potentially waking Alisha, or keep trying to fight? If she didn’t get help, she wouldn’t want her little girl to see her mother hurt.
The guy’s hands moved her dress, and she couldn’t help the scream leaving her lips. He slapped her across the face, making her skin go hot and her head spin. Then his large hand pressed against her mouth, stifling her sufficiently. Fear consumed her body while the male man-handled her. She blinked a few times, trying to get the black spots from her vision but struggled to focus. Yet all she could see was the bastard’s smug expression. A sudden shift of weight, and when her eyes focused on what was happening, two new guys stood there holding the first.
I don’t think she wants your company.
The guy on the right with black hair growled toward the male he held. The second guy with brown hair punched her attacker in the gut.
That’s for trying to hurt her.
The brunette spoke low, sending heat through her body. What the hell? I should not be turned on by his voice! Especially right now! Ebony fixed her dress and took a second to check on her daughter, still asleep.
Now, leave before we kick your ass, making you wish you were never born.
The black-haired guy tossed the attacker toward the water, and thankfully away from Ebony. He stood and pushed the sand from his clothes, then stormed off. The last of the sun’s rays peaked over the horizon, making the two men in front of her appear even more bulkier than her attacker. She swallowed hard and looked between them.
Thank you.
Her voice still shook while her body tried to figure out if she wanted to run or stay.
Are you okay, ma’am?
It’s Ebony, please. And yes, I think I’m okay. Just a little shaken up.
I’m Luca and this is Dante,
The brunette said and then pointed to the other guy. Luca had muscles but also a soft edge to him while Dante was all masculine curves. Both of them radiated a power that should have made Ebony want to run since they would have no trouble taking all her control. Yet the way they saved her from the other guy helped to calm her racing heart. They are the good guys.
Well, thank you Luca and Dante for your help. I really do appreciate it. I’m just glad Alisha slept through all of this.
Alisha?
Luca asked while one eyebrow raised.
My daughter.
Ebony pointed to her in the back seat.
Luca smiled. She’s beautiful, just like her mother.
Always the kiss ass.
Dante chuckled. Don’t get me wrong—you are gorgeous.
He winked and patted his friend on the shoulder. I should say thank you. Ebony moved off the car, but her head spun from her heart racing too much. Her whole body lurched forward. Oh shit, that’s going to hurt! Two large hands caught her before she fell on her face, and a second later, a zap of electricity ran under her skin on both sides. She looked up to find both guys had grabbed her arms, one on each side.
That was a strong...um, what was that exactly.
She blinked a few times, breathing in slowly to keep herself upright. Stupid condition, I do hate you so much. She cursed her body for failing her so miserably.
We fucking imprinted with the same woman.
Dante’s bark of laughter almost scared her as he helped her to a standing position. He blinked a few times then shoved his hands through his hair, hints of frustration filling his gaze. I can’t fucking believe I have to share with you again.
He shook his head.
What on Earth are you...
Ebony snapped her mouth shut as the words clicked in her addled brain. Imprint means mate, and mates means werewolves. I imprinted with you?
With both of us,
Luca’s brows pinched together as he corrected her.
Both!
She couldn’t keep her mouth from gapping open. There must be some mistake, I can’t have werewolves as mates. I’m human! For fuck’s sakes, I have my very human daughter to think about. Being in your world puts her in danger.
Do you really think we couldn’t take care of both of you?
Dante glanced around the area, but no one walked their way We need to leave before others hear.
I’m not going anywhere with you right now. I don’t know you.
Ebony stepped back, her ass hitting the fender.
Dante, relax,
Luca growled. She backed up a bit more, rubbing her fingers against the door, searching for the handle.
No, she’s now in danger, especially if Marco finds out.
His gaze turned on her as her fingers dipped into the door handle. She yanked it open, and the guys froze for a moment.
Panic filled Ebony as she climbed into her car. Before either of them could stop her, she pulled out of her parking spot and hauled ass toward her hotel a few miles north. Her gaze kept darting to the rear-view mirror to see if they were following, but there was no sign. The wind whipped at her hair and she rolled up the driver’s side window, but not the passenger side one. She wanted to be able to smell the ocean air a little bit more.
Yet, the farther she moved away from the two werewolves, the more she felt like she was leaving a part of her behind.
CHAPTER TWO
Luca
Frustration bloomed in Luca’s chest as he stared after Ebony’s car. If Dante hadn’t been so freaking overbearing, they could’ve convinced her to come to their home. Instead, they were standing around wondering where the hell she’d run off too.
Are you fucking kidding me?
Luca punched his best friend in the arm. "Just perfect, your usual attitude has scared off
