My Dad’s Murderer - Jess Winters
Prologue
––––––––
Here I am, trying to keep me alive in this big world. I have been alone since I was 17, till then I was living with a friend of my father’s, hard for a girl isn’t it? What more, I fight with big men twice my size in the street fights. I am not your regular, cute and sweet girl. I have to make my own money.
My mother is useless and whores around and my father is dead. I wish I could be dead too, I don’t have much to keep me going. Everything I had is lost. I am so tired of everything, the regular fights, the regular pains; it’s so hard to keep on moving. But there’s no time to dwell on it, I have a fight to attend.
Chapter-1
––––––––
Sandy! Sandy!!
—I hear the drunken crowd scream my name or my fake name, at the top of their voices as I win, yet another of my fights. I walk down from the ring to the manager to collect my money.
Nobody notices I am a girl; my black hoodie kept me well hidden. The ones who had extra fun from my fight with the hefty guy patted my back as I passed them.
I didn’t care to answer them and kept on walking out straight, with my head held high. Tonight, I earned a very well amount from my fights. You are probably confused as to what fight I am talking about and probably who I am! Let me clear it out for you. I am Lucinda Gray, known as Sandy in the ring of the street fights. Yes, I do street fighting, that’s probably the only thing in my life which keeps me sane.
I walk up to my shitty apartment in the dark of the night. I am really thankful that my apartment is not far from the bar where I fight but it’s still shitty because of the paper thin walls. I hate them. I take off my sweaty black hoodie and black trousers and let my brown, wavy shoulder-length hair down. Gosh, everything smells right now, and I feel itchy all over. I went off to take my shower to get all the grime out of my body after putting my sweaty clothes in the laundry. 15 minutes later I come out with an old towel wrapped around my body. Yeah, I am not rich enough to buy a new towel, truly saying it’s with a lot of difficulties that I manage to pay the bills.
I put away all the money I had won tonight inside my little box which I have for my savings at the back of my closet. I take out an old t-shirt and old grandma panties for the night.
Good ni-
just as I was about to tell myself that we had gone through another day, and now we can officially go to sleep, the sounds of my neighbor started to come through the wall.
Keep. That. Sound. Down.
I said as I banged my hand on the wall above my bedpost. My neighbor is a horny bitch and keeps coming back every night with one of her play toys, and then they make all those not-so-decent sounds throughout the night.
Yeah, it’s a nightmare for me. My banging had some effect tonight, and they did
