    Kissing Wilde - Selena Blake

    1

    O h, how awful!

The anguish in his assistant’s voice was unmistakable. Though he couldn’t see her from his desk, Callan Wilde knew her big blue eyes would be filled with worry. He’d seen the distressed expression many times before, brows bunched together, her rosy lips parted —ready to offer her assistance.

That was one of the things he appreciated most about Amelia Peabody. Her compassionate nature was second to none.

That didn’t help in the animal kingdom, but it certainly endeared her to his board members. She never forgot special events like birthdays and anniversaries. Cal didn’t put much stock into that sort of thing. Business was business. He didn’t do warm fuzzies as she called them; it wasn’t in his DNA.

Except where she was concerned. Amelia Peabody made him very warm.

Yes — Okay. She sounded resigned and a little frustrated. Let me see what I can do.

He heard the soft click as she replaced the phone receiver into its cradle.

Two heartbeats later she breezed through his door, golden red waves of hair rippling around her shoulders. He gave himself a moment to enjoy the way her button up sweater hugged her slender waist before he returned his gaze to his computer screen.

Focusing on work, rather than her, had become increasingly difficult over the last year. Especially when her soft scent was so intoxicating. The subtle fragrance was just like the woman it belonged to, unique, complex, warm. It called to the beast inside him, alternately quieting the chaos of being an animal trapped in a human society and driving him crazy with want.

At least once a day he fantasized about pulling her across the desk, hiking up those form fitting skirts and tasting her.

Her ability to incite an erection was nothing short of maddening. He was old, mature, and yet he reacted like a randy teenager.

What is it, Miss Peabody? he asked, sounding mildly annoyed even to his own ears. His lack of professional focus was irritating, and he’d promised to give his thoughts on three different reports by the end of the day. Squeezing in reading time between meetings was almost as hard as not thinking about his adorable assistant.

Obviously startled at his tone, she pulled up short between the two conference chairs opposite his desk. Like the rest of the furniture in his office, she’d selected it. Carefully sourced with emphasis on fair trade.

Tasteful. Modern. And yet not too edgy or stuffy. Just like the woman before him. Which made him wonder for the millionth time…what would she taste like?

Sorry. What’s wrong? he amended, feeling bad for taking his frustration out on her.

She was one of the few humans who knew his secret. He’d never forget how wide her blue eyes had gotten when she’d walked into his bedroom and found a tiger shifting into human form.

Cal stood up on the plush bed, his massive paws burrowing into the soft sheets. Rocking backward, tail in the air, he stretched. His muscles rippled beneath his thick orange and black coat.

It was going to be a great day. Any day he got to see Amelia was a good one. And since he had back to back meetings that would require her assistance, he’d be seeing a lot of her.

He hopped down from the bed just as there was a knock at the door. His heart lurched into his throat and he froze in the middle of his hotel room.

    Should he shift?

    Should he hide?

Deciding it’d be better for her to walk in on him in the nude rather than a full-grown tiger, he started to change. But he wasn’t fast enough. As she had many times in the past, Amelia opened the door and stepped inside. Since he was not much of a morning person, she often threw open the curtains and woke him by telling him what a fabulous day it was going to be.

He’d missed one important meeting and now his assistant pulled out all the stops to get him there on time.

But today she took three steps before her gaze lifted from the device in her hand and focused on the half man, half tiger transforming before her eyes. Her lovely eyes widened to a comical proportion, showing off the whites. Her jaw dropped open slightly and she froze, the tablet tumbling from her grasp.

She was at the door, hand on the knob in less than a second. But he was faster. He shoved a palm
