About this ebook

Previously published as The Christmas Miracles of Barnaby Sloan by Jenna Jones

Barnaby Sloan usually spends the holidays with his aunt Vianne but changes in her life, as well as in his roommate's, cause Barnaby to reconsider his plans. His boyfriend Liam invites Barnaby to join him at his family's home, but Barnaby is too uncertain about his future with Liam to accept. He decides to spend the holidays alone instead, working on his dissertation and volunteering at his favorite museum.

Then a snowstorm hits, knocking out the power throughout the city. Between the snow, the solitude, and nothing going according to plan, Barnaby realizes all he wants for Christmas is Liam -- but it would take a miracle for him to get that wish.

The Christmas Miracles of Barnaby Sloan

Two weeks before Christmas, Barnaby Sloan’s Aunt Vianne called from Cairo. Bay, my darling, how are you?

She sounded much closer and clearer than usual, so Barnaby said, I’m wonderful, and you sound amazing. Did you get a new phone?

I did, a satellite phone. It is nice, isn’t it? My team has been using it to call home for the last two days.

Barnaby laughed. Making Christmas plans, I imagine. Speaking of, when are you coming back to the States? I’ve been keeping an eye on revival theaters for our annual Christmas Day film fest.

Bay, darling, that’s why I called.

Oh, Barnaby said with a sinking feeling.

I’ve met someone, Vianne said, her voice warm and sprightly. His name is Jasper Woodbridge, he works for the British Museum, and he’s mad about me.

Tell me everything immediately, Barnaby said.

Gladly, my love. We’ve been bumping into each other at symposiums and conferences for the last year, and then he came to Cairo to liasion with the National Museum of Egypt we spent even more time together, and now he wants me to spend the holidays with him in London. She added gently, I won’t if it means you’ll be alone at Christmas. I don’t want you to feel abandoned.

Barnaby had been ambling through the apartment while they talked, but stopped to curl up in the corner of the saggy sofa and wrap an arm around his legs. Vianne had been single for as long as he could remember, and it seemed to him she didn’t mind it — her philosophy was that it was better to be alone than to be with the wrong person — but there was a note of happiness in her voice that Barnaby didn’t think he’d heard before.
