About this ebook
After the collapse, civilization was different! There was chaos and war... and death. The world suffered. The population suffered. But then came reorganization and control!
This is the post-apocalyptic tale of one city's attempt to enforce control and maintain order... and of what happens when outside forces begin to threaten that order.
The year is 3667 and for the first time in its history Ceradon City is on the verge of expansion. For most of its existence the city has relied on rigid controls to ensure complacency among its citizenry—including enrolling them in Reprogramming when necessary. But now something’s gone awry in the Reprogramming program and Ceradon City’s “expansion initiative” is at risk for failure. Suddenly Vedd McNeer, an Enforcer with the city’s Department of Enforcement, finds himself entangled in the mystery.

Chapter 2: Denzon, Preview, and the Wall
Denzon stood before the recognition sensor with his eyes crossed trying to catch a glimpse of a single sweat droplet dangling from the end of his nose. It was hard to tell if it was the heat or his nerves causing his excessive perspiration, especially given the fact that this was the closest he’d ever been to Ceradon City. As a child he’d heard stories about the place, mystical tales about a great wall surrounding a world so enchanting its visitors could never leave once they’d entered, a city so magnificent that a person’s heart would stop if they stared too long at it. There’d also been the rumor—one circulated heavily while he was a teen—that if a person approached too closely to the outside walls he’d be evaporated instantly into the atmosphere.
He stared at the sensor for a moment and then up at the wall of dirt before him. He couldn’t find the top; it just seemed to blend into the sky, a barren mountain of rock and sand, not a tree or blade of grass to be found. He glanced in either direction, first left and then right. It was the same thing, an endless mound stretching well out of sight. He shifted nervously in his position, still haunted by those old childhood tales, his cautious side begging for him to back away. He pulled an arm up to clear the sweat from his forehead.
I’m sorry,
the automated voice barked, but we do not recognize you in our system,
it alerted bluntly.
I’m with the delegate envoy,
he moaned into the speaker, his voice raspy from the mounds of dust he’d ingested over the course of his journey.
Please hold,
