CHAPTER ONE

UNDERSTANDING THE ART OF SPIRITUAL WARFARE:

We wrestle not with flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:12).

ontrary to popular belief, the Christian walk is not a bed of roses as have been erroneously presumed to be in some Christian Charismatic circles. Like a toy store window the week before Christmas, Christianity has been brightly and colorfully packaged to offer free prizes to all who will come to Jesus. Yet after coming to Christ, we discover that an army of unrelenting demons which the Church has not equipped us to deal with has been unleashed against us from the Dark Kingdom.  Although we are living in a physical world, there are spiritual battles that we are engaged in with demonic forces in the spirit world. The battlefield is in the spirit realm yet the outcome of these spiritual battles have an effect on the destinies of people in the natural realm. The reality is that we are engaged in a militant conflict with satanic forces in the invisible spiritual world whether or not we like it or we are aware of it. For this reason, every believer is engaged in a three-front war against the devil, the world system and his own flesh. It is a battle waged against us by Satan and his diabolical cohorts of the dark world. He is diabolical and an unmerciful tyrannical despot who carries out illegal operations. He is an outcast and a condemned criminal waiting to be thrown into hell fire on the last day. He is an illegal being who  has a polluted power, which he exerts, in the space. Satan has been fighting against man for about six thousand years now and he has observed human behavior for centuries since our creation such that knows mankind and what tricks will work against man.. It is for this reason that the apostle Peter alerts all believers saying, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." (Peter 5:8). Satan knows that as we are quickly adjourning towards the end of this age, his time is up, hence he is trying to instigate a mass rampage and deceptively lure as many people on his side as he can, just to avenge his fatal defeat when he was cast out of Heaven.

Therefore, if you are to prevail in these trying times in which we live, it is imperative that you learn how to engage in spiritual warfare against the Dark Kingdom because we have entered the time period referred to in the Bible where the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time (Revelations 12:12).  It is for this reason that Paul made a clarion call on all believers to fight a good fight of faith (2 Timothy 2:1-3; 1 Timothy 6:12). That is why as a Christian, you must never live life casually but be vigilant of the adversary lest you fall prey to the whims and vagaries of the devil.

It is disheartening to note that dozens of believers seem to be inept at spiritual warfare for the most part and are deficient in understanding of spiritual weapons the Lord gave to the Church with which to fight our enemy. Despite its significance in the Christendom today, spiritual warfare is the very area where Christians have little understanding and a main reason why they don’t achieve the desired results from the Lord is because they never engage the enemy in warfare. They just sit idly around hoping God is going to help them. Owing to ignorance, I have heard some believers preposterously say, "We should not fight anymore for God fights for us ". This is partially true and also partially false. Yes, God fights for us, but that doesn't mean that the war has ceased. The fact that God fights for us is a clear indication on its own that we are still in a fight against the devil. The devil is on his assignment and will not rest even a single day from his mission of frustrating people's lives and disrupting their destinies. He has been meddling in the affairs of humanity since the beginning of creation, hence if you don't speak anything good into your future, that will not make the devil to stop from fighting you and speaking bad into it. In other words, if you keep quiet, sit back and you are nonchalant about spiritual warfare matters, the devil will not back off. That is why regardless of how humble you are as a Christian, you need to understand that sometimes in your ministry, profession or business, you will have to clash or fight against the demonic spirits because battle lines have already been drawn in the spirit realm against all believers. If things aren't moving in your life, just check the level of your spiritual warfare and you will get all the answers you need. You need to engage in Spiritual warfare, because a prayerless Christian is a powerless Christian, and a powerless Christian is a vulnerable target of the devil. When you pray, your prayers will easily ascend and your blessings from God will easily descend.

The reality is that the Church has sat still long enough and just waged a defensive struggle. If the Church today could just understand that we have all the power and authority to drive Satan from this planet, we would be a force to be reckoned with in a spiritual war. For this reason, God is calling forth deliverance ministry  to proclaim liberty to the captives. This is part of the spiritual war. Because we do not know or perceive spiritual problems due to our lack of knowledge, we are not quick to notice people who need deliverance, especially within the Church. We pass off the problem as being psychological or some other malady, which we term scientific. Yet psychology deals with the mind and not the spirit of man, hence it is of little benefit. Because these spirits manifest through the mind, we wrongly assume it is a mental rather than a spiritual problem. You can understand how psychological treatment would be difficult because another entity is controlling the person’s mind.We simply must increase our spiritual acumen in this area because as the power of the devil is getting stronger in America, we are going to see a greater need for deliverance ministry than ever before in the history of the Church.

Today the world is a spiritual desert. Despite almost two thousand years of Christianity, most of the world, over 85%, is still in darkness—it is ruled by the Dark Kingdom. And the Church has been like the Titanic. While it is slowly sinking, we argue about doctrine while most of the crew—the clergy—have been busy rearranging the deck chairs or, like James and John, arguing over who has the greatest ministry. The major problem is that the Church is not being led by the Holy Spirit; it’s being led by religious spirits. It’s the leading of religious spirits that produces our wilderness wanderings." Meanwhile, the Holy Spirit is still crying out every day to the Church to prepare ye the way of the Lord.This is perhaps the most important topic to consider in this new decade because the Spirit is preparing the saints for great spiritual warfare and ministry to usher in the return of Christ.The first step most of us need to take in preparation is to shake ourselves, repent and arise from spiritual lethargy. We have been complacent and not fulfilled our calling in the army of the Lord. Let’s make the Strong Man tremble as the Church arises and shakes herself from her lethargy. Let the Dark Kingdom feel the crescendo of hammer blows from the Army of the Lord being trained in this hour. Let us resolve to go forward into battle and no longer linger on the sidelines waiting for the Lord to rapture us and take us out of this terrible world. God is calling those who have lingered too long in the wilderness to come out and join the Bride in spiritual warfare. It is only those who have developed their faith to a high level and sharpened their spiritual gifts that will have the spiritual intestinal fortitude to go out against Goliath.David enlarged his faith by learning to use his weapons against the lion and the bear before he had to take on Goliath.

The Lord, who created everything, is a man of war. He is the Lord of hosts, or angelic armies. We must awaken to the great call of the Holy Spirit to the Church today and prepare for battle! We have been apathetic and complacent too long as we have allowed the devil to destroy much of what the early Church accomplished. This has resulted in the tremendous incidence of divorce, adultery, alcoholism, dishonesty, child abuse, and many other things we are witnessing within the Body of Christ. We have witnessed the decline of our educational system, our morals, our governmental and judicial systems, and the very moral fabric of our nation itself. The truth is that you are not free until your territory is free hence commanding influence in your territory is another dimension that you should tap into in the spirit realm. It is time we awoke and began to no longer merely fight a defensive battle, hoping Christ will return soon and take us away from this vale of tears known as the earth.God is calling for us to go on the offensive! Are you ready to do so?

The good news is that every born again believer carries a militant DNA intertwined within his spiritual system. This militant DNA is provoked at the face of battles. Every battle is supposed to provoke that militant power residing within your spirit. In the spirit realm, as a believer, you are covered with a special fire and dressed in military outfit with bullets all over them, yet you are not consumed (Daniel 3:21 -25).There would be a power explosion of these bullets when the name of Jesus is mentioned, causing disaster in the spirit world. All demons hatched from hell cannot defeat you because you are a terrible encapsulation of high profile armed forces equipped with mighty weapons of warfare designed to annihilate the enemy. In other words, you are an impenetrable well guarded imperium that is infused with divine power to crash any diabolical resistance and put the devil on the run for life.You are a terror to the dark world and a nightmare to the devil.

What Is Spiritual Warfare

The term Spiritual Warfare refers to a battle between two spiritual forces; the Heavenly Kingdom and the diabolical demonic kingdom championed by the devil. It connotes to how to fight battles in the spirit realm against satanic forces and influences and how to cast out demons either from the bodies of their victims or from the environment in your sphere of contact. This battle takes place in the invisible spiritual realm where the stage is set and battle lines have already been drawn against us by demonic forces. Every invisible authority and government in the arena of the heavenlies now witnesses the display of the wisdom of God and the church acts as a prism that disperses the varies magnitude of God in human form. Spiritual warfare also involves developing an understanding of who your enemy is, how he operates, what strategies he uses to fight against you, what his warfare base or strongholds are and what his strengths, weaknesses,  opportunities and threats are. At a broader length, it incorporates a wide spectrum of spiritual acts such as understanding the spirit realm in which the devil operates, how to manoeuvre and navigate your way in the spirit world, how to cast  out demons, how to obtain a legal precedent against the accuser the devil before the High Court of Heaven, as well as how to plead cases, accusations and petitions lodged against believers before the Courts of Heaven. At a strategic level, spiritual warfare involves undertaking such strategic acts as taking over new territories for Jesus, reclaiming territories that have been taken over by enemy through the paradigm of ignorance as well as strategically occupying political, financial, media and all other territories that are deemed critical in the proliferation of the Gospel.

The Seven Reasons For Engaging In Spiritual Warfare:

Spiritual Warfare releases a spiritual gravitational restraining force that hinders the devil and his cohorts from instigating a mass rampage that detains the masses into a morass of debilitating poverty, sickness, disease, limitation in progress and other webs of satanic entanglement (2 Thessalonians 2:5-9).

Engaging in Spiritual Warfare equips and empowers you with divine ammunition and causes you to be a terrible encapsulation of high profile armed forces equipped with mighty weapons of warfare designed to annihilate the enemy. In other words, it causes you to become an impenetrable well guarded imperium that is infused with divine power to crash any diabolical resistance and put the devil on the run for life.

Spiritual Warfare is a vehicle for the disperse, release and movements of angelic beings from Heaven to earth. Angels are responsible for spiritual warfare in the realm of the spirit as they execute God's wrath and judgment. They respond to the word of God and our prophetic declarations, hence the instant we step into the battlefield, they join us in the invisible realm as spiritual commanders called to battle against demonic forces on behalf of believers (Joshua 5:13-14; Daniel 10:13).

Engaging in Spiritual Warfare anchors our spiritual position of dominion in the spiritual realm and establishes our spiritual ranks as territorial commanders in the realm of the spirit.
