    Lightning split the sky, offering a brief illumination of the dark summer skies that had come rushing in to swarm the Ozarks Mountains. Kassie Sutton flexed her fingers on the steering wheel and tried to remain within her skin and not completely freak with each thundering boom that reverberated down through her vehicle and into every inch of her body.

    Sweat rolled down her back and made her hands slick on the steering wheel. Slow breaths in through her nose and out through her mouth. Apparently, this was some special breathing technique that was supposed to help. it did shit for her at the moment, but their her neurosis ran much deeper than the shrink had known.

    If I’d know this kind of weather was in the forecast, I never would have started up through here today.

    Even as the thought skipped around in her mind, she realized it wasn’t fair, Mother Nature couldn’t be guaranteed to behave in a certain way. Unless it was behaving unexpectedly.
