Author

Bailey Bradford

A native Texan, Bailey spends her days spinning stories around in her head, which has contributed to more than one incident of tripping over her own feet. Evenings are reserved for pounding away at the keyboard, as are early morning hours. Sleep? Doesn't happen much. Writing is too much fun, and there are too many characters bouncing about, tapping on Bailey's brain demanding to be let out. Caffeine and chocolate are permanent fixtures in Bailey's office and are never far from hand at any given time. Removing either of those necessities from Bailey's presence can result in what is known as A Very, Very Scary Bailey and is not advised under any circumstances.

    Chapter Thirteen

The church was bigger than John had expected, even after seeing pictures online. He knew well enough that photo shopping could create places that appeared more appealing virtually than in reality. That wasn’t the case with the God’s Love church.

The building itself appeared to be an architect’s fantasy come to fruition, with a very modern design. Sharp angles, varying roof heights as well as dozens of windows framed with intricate trim…the church was impressive.

Love the steps, Henry murmured, and John had to agree. The steps leading up to the church were as wide as the building itself, and they came out in a curvature that looked to be almost flowing as they glinted bronze under the sun.

Crowded, too, John pointed out as he looked for a place to park. There had to be at least a hundred cars there, maybe more. Who knew, he murmured, more to himself than to Henry.

Henry picked up on it anyway. Yeah, well, I bet there’s a bunch of people like me who feel lost. When society tells you you’re wrong, an abomination and shouldn’t have rights like everyone else, it makes you question everything.

It’s getting better. The fact that this church is even here is proof of that. John had to believe it, too, otherwise life would be too depressing even with his medications. No one wanted to be hated and shunned.

Yeah, I guess. We could always move to a different state, or country. Henry snorted. Your mom would skin me for even saying that.

She would. None of her babies can move away.

Henry didn’t say anything else and John feared he was thinking about how his own parents didn’t care where he was. John couldn’t imagine that. He found a parking spot in the ass-end of the lot and shortly after they were walking towards the church. Several people greeted them, nothing too intense, just hi and welcome. It was weird, but John…liked it, and Henry was smiling in a way John hadn’t seen him do for a while.

The steps were gorgeous, and numerous. By the time we get to the top and find a seat inside, we’ll be too tired to stay awake during the sermon, John told Henry.

    No kidding.
