Author

Bailey Bradford

A native Texan, Bailey spends her days spinning stories around in her head, which has contributed to more than one incident of tripping over her own feet. Evenings are reserved for pounding away at the keyboard, as are early morning hours. Sleep? Doesn't happen much. Writing is too much fun, and there are too many characters bouncing about, tapping on Bailey's brain demanding to be let out. Caffeine and chocolate are permanent fixtures in Bailey's office and are never far from hand at any given time. Removing either of those necessities from Bailey's presence can result in what is known as A Very, Very Scary Bailey and is not advised under any circumstances.

    Chapter Four

A restless night had led to John being less than a stellar salesman at work on Wednesday. He’d muddled one potential sale completely, showing up with the wrong quotes and samples. The second meeting he’d had with a possible client had gone better, but he’d still ended up stuttering and stumbling over his words. His concentration was shot, as tended to happen when he was exhausted. John was sure he’d hear about his crappy performance tomorrow from his boss.

All John wanted to do was go home and crawl into bed. It was Wednesday though, and he knew there was no escaping the family dinner. His mother could use guilt with a skill other moms would envy.

John shut down his work laptop and put away the loose papers on his desk. There was a place for everything on or in his desk. John preferred a tidy work area, possibly to the point of being obsessive about it. Even as tired as he was, the thought of leaving a mess—no matter how small—was unacceptable.

When he was satisfied with his area, John stood and picked up his briefcase. He waved to Dani and Jean as he left. As soon as he stepped outside, he was sweaty. John cursed and wished he’d thought to remove his suit jacket before leaving the building. At least he didn’t have far to walk.

Traffic was lighter than usual, a blessing John wasn’t going to question. He checked the time on the dashboard. Five-forty. If traffic kept up like it was going, he would
