Dedication
This book is dedicated to my sweetheart, Tiger. My best friend, confidant, idea bouncer-offofer and so much more. As always he was there to help me focus my wild imagination into another story that I hope the fans will love.
Prologue
Long ago, during the time of gods in Karibo, Africa, the people did not take the words of their ancestors to heart. They rarely cultivated the land so it could continue to bear the provisions they needed. Instead, they frolicked and used up their stores. For a time the gods continued to let the sun shine upon them, rise the moon, bring the rains when needed, fertilize the land, but when the people stopped praying to them and neglected to give offerings they stopped. The people’s negative behavior continued until the territory was desecrated and barely habitable. The devastation of many natural resources around their village was the result of generations of poor judgment. When the natives realized what they had done, they prayed again to the gods for restoration.
The lake god of Karibo was particularly disturbed. It was his job to preserve the bodies of water in the area. He favored a particular lake and chose it to reside in. When the devastation reached his home waters he set forth a terrible drought in the province. He vowed to return when the environment had been cleansed of everyone who aided in the land’s destruction. Crops died. Every river and stream in the vicinity dried up. Only the god’s home lake was left untouched, leaving very little food or clean water. As they began to procreate, they concentrated on teaching their children not to make the same mistakes they had. They ate less and offered all other provisions to the children to further growth and knowledge. When the last one representing the old generation’s leaders had passed on, the lake god returned to the village.
His long elegant limbs carried him to the center of the settlement. The form-fitting tunic showed off his taut body as he moved gracefully on land. Though his physical
