"Hold out your purses ladies, and gents grab those wallets, up for auction is yard work and handyman services from the next batch of men," I announce into the microphone.

I keep going through the list in front of me. Group after group of services offered and items up for bid, all to raise money for House of Hope. Some people in the community have offered services like housework, landscaping, and more. Everyone has come together to help out the place that means so much to Wendol and all of my friends, as well as me. House of Hope is a battered women’s shelter that specializes in providing a home, healthcare, along with continuing education as well as job placement for women leaving abusive relationships or situations.

While at House of Hope they are not only given opportunities for a new life, but also the shelter of safety that they can’t find out on the streets.

Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week there is a full staff of security on the premises. For the women who work, every effort to provide a guard is made when it’s necessary even offsite from House of Hope and at their workplace. Beyond all of this, House of Hope covers the legal expenses of properly obtaining orders of protection and prosecuting the abusers when possible.

There is no way to stop all levels of domestic abuse, but House of Hope is doing what it can for the people of Odessa, Midland, and Gardendale, Texas. I’m honored to do my part in raising money. Which is why I donated my services to be the MC, announcing all the items tonight. This is what I do, it’s who I am, keep the hype going.
