CHAPTER 1
––––––––
All the years she’d existed... it was just that – an existence. Milena never lived. That was the feeling that enveloped her as she nestled her head in the crux of her prince’s neck. Every fiber in her body was now alive, every cell in tune. Music now played inside her head and butterflies fluttered in her stomach.
For the first time she felt... she tried to find the right words... complete was what came to mind. She knew it was cliché. Still the word felt right. She closed her eyes and listened to the steady breathing of Dhahn. This was heaven... or as close to it as she’d imagined.
Prince Dhahn,
Lola’s voice broke through the tranquil atmosphere. Lord Trovüllé wishes to communicate with you. He declares it is urgent.
They were still on the VD2 – Providence, where Dhahn treated her like the princess she was. A honeymoon of sorts. Slowly, her position on Viutera was sinking in. It was more difficult to accept her royal status than it was her genetic structure. Although she hadn’t quite come to terms with her paternity, it was something she knew she would need to address soon.
Dhahn’s eyes shot open and Milena eased herself up, pulling up the sheet to cover her body. Dhahn raised up to a sitting position and kissed her neck. A soft groan erupted from her as his electric lips scorched her skin.
Open communication in five seconds,
he told Lola.
Five seconds was all he needed to pull up his panütianné. When the hologram appeared in the room, he was already dressed and she was under the covers, pretending to be asleep. It was late, therefore she knew his father must have contacted him for good reason.
My son, forgive me for the interruption, but Kulzton is missing,
Lord Trovüllé said.
Milena’s eyes came open and she sat up, almost unsettling the sheet. She caught it in time to cover herself. With haste, she moved from the bed and rushed to the bathroom where she dressed before returning to the main chamber.
What do you mean he is missing?
Dhahn was asking his father.
No one can locate him,
Trovüllé said. Moreover, we have a mole here. The Crioxite have challenged us and their ships are moving into our atmosphere. We believe Kulzton is the traitor.
That is impossible, father. Kulzton would never betray our kingdom – he would never betray his brother.
That remains to be seen,
Trovüllé replied. I am deeply apologetic in asking you to return to Viutera at once. We need you here.
Dhahn turned to Milena with questioning eyes. It was one thing she loved about him. Even though returning to Viutera was critical, he sought her permission first. He knew she would never hinder his return, but the fact that he needed her approval said a lot about his respect for her.
After the channel close she hugged his waist from behind and rested her cheeks on the broad of his back. His strength seeped into her, reassuring her that all would be well. However, she hoped to impart some comfort to him as well, knowing what must be running through his mind.
The truth finder would never betray you,
she said. He is incapable of deceit.
I know that very well,
he said. I am worried that something might have gone terribly wrong. Otherwise, he would never leave my parents alone during my absence.
Milena stayed by Dhahn’s side during the trip back to Viutera. It was a short ride as he instructed Lola to employ a speed of warp-3. When they arrived in the atmosphere surrounding Viutera, Dhahn made out three ships belonging to the Crioxite. He immediately employed the protective shield and masks before approaching his homeland. Using the encrypted channel, he communicated with his father about what he saw.
The Crioxite could not be trusted. It was believed that they possessed the technology that could penetrate the protective shields of some ships. Dhahn was taking no chances, in the event this rumor proved to be true.
The environment is quite hostile,
Milena said. This nation won’t let up, will they? What will you do?
I will attempt at a diplomatic resolution,
he replied. It is quite amazing that we have done nothing wrong, yet the Crioxite see us as the enemy.
Milena snickered. It is because they are arrogant and self-absorbed. They feel they are superior to all other species in the mega-galaxies. I know their nation is about ten times the size of ours, but that gives them no right to try and control us.
That is so, my queen,
Dhahn turned to Milena, his voice softening. My heart swells upon calling you my queen.
You’re such a romantic, even in the face of conflict.
That is because your love makes everything appear insignificant,
he replied. I feel I can conquer any overlord with you by my side.
I feel the same,
she declared, her voice hoarse.
Fortunately, they were able to enter Viutera unhindered. Milena left Dhahn with his father, Zezukx along with the fleet commander for them to strategize. Before leaving for her room, she checked on her mother and she was sound asleep. She knew she needed to sleep as well as she felt her energy draining.
It wasn’t the same as when she was tired after a long day’s task. She felt like something had reached side her and pulled out her energy, like a battery that was sucked dry by some electronic device. While she was still worried about what was transpiring in their domain, she knew the best way for her to assist was if she was at her optimum. The only way to do that was to recharge. Therefore, she freshened up and slipped into bed. As soon as she hit the pillow, Milena fell fast asleep.
CHAPTER 2
––––––––
The obvious conclusion was that Kulzton was nowhere on the planet. No sensor could detect the truth finder and no one knew when he left or where he had gone. Dhahn was still convinced that something was amiss. If Kulzton was a traitor to the kingdom, the enemy would use him to gain access to their most confidential data to which he was privy.
After a brief conversation with his father. Dhahn proceeded to have all their most valuable data sources secured with new encryption. Not that he believed his best friend to be a traitor, he was concerned that the Crioxite might be holding him against his will.
Standing in his atelier at the command center, Dhahn viewed the Crioxite vessels surrounding Viutera on the large monitor. He was expecting them to make contact any time soon, and wondered what the delay could be.
Captain Zezukx came to stand beside him. Prince Dhahn, Fiulutux wishes to speak with you.
Bring him in.
The captain departed for a few minutes to return with the one commonly called Trojan. Fiulutux was impervious to being read by any powers except for Kulzton’s. Yet, even Kulzton himself was never certain that he was reading the right persona. The youth had the ability to switch personalities at will, which made him the perfect decoy. No truth serum or psychic reader could detect any falsehood within him.
Dhahn turned to observe the youth as he entered. Fiulutux’s face expressed his
