Adrienne “Goody” Goodson’s basketball journey began at the age of seven in Bayonne, New Jersey on 20th street. Adrienne Goodson

Adrienne Goodson grew up in Bayonne and Jersey City, NJ. She was a player on ODU’s 1985 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship team. Adrienne enjoyed a long pro career in the American Basketball League (ABL) and WNBA. Also, she served as assistant coach and administrator for the Lady Monarchs of Old Dominion University. The past three years, Adrienne has been a part of several NBA player development programs for former players who are interested in coaching or administrative roles. She recently received her master's degree from Purdue Global University in Leadership Management (concentration IT in a business environment). Her immediate goal is a role in the NBA as Coordinator of Player Development and Team Services.

    I walked on the court for the first time at Old Dominion University’s noon ball; Kevin Swann and Adrienne Goodson greeted me with cold stares. I didn’t mind because I carried a chip the size of the world on my shoulders. I felt that I have been slighted by my family, friends, basketball team and coaches. I was used to destroying anyone who got in my way on the basketball court. To me destroying these two people who would later become my mentors wouldn’t be any different. That meeting on the basketball court would change everything for me. I remember driving past Swann’s and Adrienne’s mega team at will. Goody as I would soon come to know Adrienne as, said to Swann, this kid could play. I knew I earned their respect, but Goody had a special lesson for me. The next time I drove and made my way to the basketball, she gave me a hard foul, then looked at me and said, Nothing is easy here, kid. At that moment a bond was formed.

    Every time I would see Goody, she would always give me advice on life, basketball, and how to be a professional. The grudge I carried around was affecting everything that I was around. One day, while Kevin Swann, Adrienne, and I was shooting around, Adrienne says to me, Cornbread, no one will realize how talented and smart you are because you have a piss poor attitude. No one wants to be around you and you are actually a good kid. Swann chimed in with his advice on how to be a leader. This was an eye-opening experience and I heeded their advice.
