T wo weeks — that’s nothing in the big scheme of things, I said, maybe to myself but mostly to Lark, my best friend as I snapped the linen napkin over my lap. Now that I was on my way out, I didn’t care if Apollo Daire frowned when he discovered I’d actually taken my full hour for lunch. The man was a Nazi and I pitied whoever took the job after me. I can do that standing on my head. I mean, if I’ve managed to survive six months under the man, I can handle two more weeks.

Lark’s eyes widened and I quickly corrected her assumption as my cheeks flared with heat. Good God, no. I wouldn’t touch his community dick if the human race depended on it. Sorry, homo sapiens, you had a good run but I ain’t doing that.

Lark laughed. You are probably the only person in New York who would turn their nose up at Apollo Daire. He’s pretty hot.

I deadpanned, He’s a narcissistic asshole who thinks women were put on this earth to serve his needs. Blech. I can’t believe I managed to wait out six months before bailing.

But Lark quickly reminded me, Hold up, I seem to remember when you first started working for him, you were totally into him. You said and I quote, ‘He makes my panties wet with a glance’. What happened?

I scowled, hating that I’d ever thought Apollo was anything but the womanizing dickwad that he was. Bad judgement, I said, adding in my own defense, you can’t say you’ve never backtracked on your first impression about someone. Need I remind you about Bryon? At Lark’s immediate expression of distaste, I said, I rest my case. He plays a good game. I’ll give him that. I was taken in at first. I was dazzled by the bullshit but thank God, I came to my senses before I made a huge mistake.
