The dogs in the neighborhood were excited.  They had heard that a basset hound would be moving in soon.  Their town hadn't had a new pup in several years.  

Prior to his arrival, the 4-Legged Buddies came up with a plan. They decided to give the basset hound a special test before accepting him in their group.  They couldn't wait to see if he would be up to the challenge. If the new dog failed, he would have to hang out with the cats.  You had to be a tough dog to run with the 4-Legged Buddies.

Intro

The dogs in the neighborhood were excited.  They had heard that a basset hound would be moving in soon.  Their town hadn't had a new pup in several years.  The 4-Legged Buddies couldn't wait to meet their new neighbor and show him around. 

Prior to his arrival, the 4-Legged Buddies came up with a plan. They decided to give the basset hound a special test before accepting him in their group.

The dogs couldn't wait to see if the new pup would be up to the challenge. If he failed, he would have to hang out with the cats. You had to be a tough dog to run with the 4-Legged Buddies.

Chapter One

Jaffey, the basset hound eagerly awaited the arrival of the new neighbors.  Rumor had it they owned a basset hound like him.  He'd never seen another one before. It would be so cool to hang out with someone who looked just like him. A twin!

Bobby, Jaffey's human, yelled to his mom, Hey mom, the moving truck for the new neighbors is out front.  They're blocking part of our driveway.

That's ok.  We don't plan to go anywhere, Bobby's mom said.  I will go introduce myself after they get settled in. Maybe I'll bake a pie or cake for them.

Can I come too? Jaffey barked. He stared at his human expectantly and wagged his tail.  Momma reached down to pet him and then walked to the kitchen.

I hope we solve this communication problem someday, Jaffey said to himself.

Bobby was already sitting on the front porch eyeballing the new neighbors.
