That morning, like every morning, Renna expected to hear a loud purr right next to her ear and to feel a pair of gentle paws kneading her arm to shreds to wake her up. Some hungry yowling would have been alright too, even though her hefty mouser had vocal cords of an off-tune tuba. Instead, she was assaulted awake by the tormenting sound of her vintage alarm clock right out of arm’s reach.

She bolted up and half fell - half crawled off the bed to turn off the menace with a swift slam. Silence fell for about two seconds before it started again and forced her to death grip it. She held it in her shaking hands and slowly removed its batteries to end the ticking. Her pounding chest made her wonder if this was how a heart attack felt like at the ripe age of 22.

Here kitty kitty~ she muttered melodically as she dragged herself to the kitchen and wiped her messy dark brown hair off her face, Come on Mr. Mudcake...Breakfast time! But no cat appeared. Not even when she had filled up a large bowl with taurine-rich, saucy cat food. A small worry grew in Renna’s chest. She decided to go look for him instead of eating or drinking her black coffee.
