Kids With Guns 5 - Jamell Crouthers
Sheila (Matthew's Mother)
My phone rang and it was Rebecca,
She was frantic and was hyperventilating.
I was trying to calm her down to get her to talk,
She said to me, everyone knows, everyone knows.
I had no idea what she was talking about,
As I was trying to get her to elaborate.
She was frantically telling me someone told it all,
That we were part of the shooting and they connected all of the dots.
I tried to calm her down and tell her remember people don't believe those things,
That it will all be called a conspiracy theory in hindsight.
She calmed down a little but realized what if everyone believes them,
I told her we will all be moved out of this town anyway.
Yes the cat has been let out of the bag at this point,
There were people connecting dots with this case from the moment it happened.
It was nothing new to me and I knew what was coming with this,
Even though I live with so many regrets and allowing this to happen.
I had say in a lot of this but my child was the devil in disguise,
There was no getting around that and I finally accepted it when he was in a prison suit with shackles all over him.
I started thinking about who exposed all of this,
Who would have the ability to connect all of the dots to this.
It had to be someone within a government organization,
I surely didn't want anything else getting out.
I knew our safety was no longer something Zach and I had,
Getting out of dodge was necessary and fast.
News spreads fast like a wildfire in this town,
I called Zach and my father-in-law to let them know what was going on.
I told Rebecca hang tight, and to call Harry,
There was no way we could stay here past tonight.
I peeked out the window of my living room,
As I was waiting for Zach to pick up his phone.
I walked to my kitchen to look outside my backyard,
I wanted to make sure no one was lurking around my yard.
Now I was becoming paranoid and scared,
I just couldn't tell Rebecca, she was already freaking out as it is.
Zach picked up and I told him what happened,
He was calm and told me he will call his dad to find out what's going to happen next.
He said he was on his way home from doing errands,
As I hung up the phone, a molotov flew through the living room window.
The house went ablaze quickly as I ran out of the backdoor,
The neighbors came out to see my house up in flames.
I called 911 but as I was on the phone,
I heard the fire trucks coming as Zach pulled up the block.
Our whole lives and all that we worked for went down the drain,
As no one saw who threw the molotov through the window.
No hearing of a car screeching away which only meant,
He ran through the backwoods to another block to get in a car and driveaway.
I ran into Zach’s arms and cried as the house burned down,
As the fire department tried to get control of the blaze and black smoke filled the air.
When the fire was finally under control,
Rebecca, Harry and my father-in-law arrived and saw the damage had been done.
It was time to say goodbye to our home and never look back,
Zach and I wouldn't be allowed back in our house as they investigated how the fire started.
We were eventually going to sell the house and leave town,
Now we are living in a hotel in another town until we get our insurance money.
A few weeks later we would be starting our lives over,
As I dyed my hair and then cut it down really low.
I'd be changing my appearance and heading to a place where no one knows who we are,
It would be another town in another state and we finally will see....Matthew.
