When she's not out hunting rogue vampires and werewolves, you can find Crystal Dawn out exploring the galaxy. She can do it all without ever leaving her computer. She kicks ass, takes names, and puts it all down for the enjoyment of her readers. At least that's what I think she told me. Writing came as a natural outlet for her overly creative mind. She has always told stories and even written some but publishing books didn't start until 2012 with The Rebirth, was the first of the Planet Amazon books. Crystal has also been lucky to have some wonderful beta readers who keep her on track and help inspire her. Secretly, she crushes on all her sexy heroes because all her stories end happily. That is one of the things that makes writing such a joy. Knowing that it makes her reader's day a little brighter. Not that she doesn't read sad books sometimes. While still in school, she read Where the Red Fern Grows and cried like a baby. It was a wonderful book and sometimes a bit of sadness has to be put in books because that's part of life. While she reads all kinds of books at some time or another, PNR and SFR, which she writes is what she reads the most for pleasure. When she started writing, she decided on going Indie after the first two books because an author has more control. She believes Indie will compete well and continues to grow. The need to give pleasure to her readers keeps her going and she sees a long career ahead. Growing up mostly in the NW Arkansas area, it has given her a good place to set some stories and many of her characters come from there or nearby SW Missouri. The start of her stories is the easy part. Finishing them is a little harder when all the stories are in there trying to get out. She loves reading, chocolate, fine sweet wine, and traveling among a large list of pursuits. Her favorite people, after her family and close friends, are her readers who she says are some of the most wonderful people in this galaxy and the next.

Prologue

In this messy universe, Shawnie Renee Strange was made. At age ten she escaped from the lab, an easy task with little challenge. The challenge was to survive in the cold, cruel world all alone. She discovered she had a talent for thieving. Not that she stole just anything, only the most challenging jobs were the ones she took, now. At first, she’d done what she had to in order to survive but survive she did. It wasn’t long before she thrived.

Shawnie found she liked the good things in life and soon, she could afford them. Soon after she turned sixteen, she began to turn men’s heads. That was just another thing she found she liked. Dangerous men who could give her a lot of sex. Even though she had a reputation as a thief, she never got caught.

The Intergalactic Patrol, or IGP had a list of their most wanted criminals, the special ones they had no proof on, but wanted desperately, that she was on. They tried, they even sent their best, sexiest officers to seduce her hoping she’d give something away. They would wine, dine, and sixty-nine her to no avail. After she turned twenty one, Shawnie found a new talent. Gambling became her new vice. Choosing to play on slot machines in various casinos, she could win whenever she wanted. It was so much easier, so she switched her way of making a living.

First, she’d been a top thief, now she was an extreme gambler, the sex she did for fun and a lot of fun it was. Now twice a year, she hit a jackpot somewhere in the universe. The universe was large, so she went to a new casino every time. It was time to pick a new target. Before long she’d be set for another six months.

Jerod McKinney the third sat at his desk looking through the most wanted files. His father was the second son of one of the richest men in their galaxy. He’d been given a small business then been sent on his way. The oldest son would inherit the lion’s share of the holdings.

Against all odds, his father had been incredibly successful. His oldest brother had not been. Jerod’s father had ended up buying the family business to save it from failing. He’d turned it around making it more successful than ever. His father had started each of his sons in their own business when they reached their majority. He intended to learn from his own father’s mistake.

Jerod had a shipping company which was doing quite well, but he had no interest in getting rich or running a business. He hired a cousin of his to manage it, but he checked on things regularly. As an IGP officer, he’d seen where too much trust could cost you. This job was his passion, not running a business. Maybe someday he’d have a child that wanted to take it over. His father tried to talk him into taking more interest in the business to no avail. He just knew this was where he needed to be right now.

As he opened the files, there were two sets of them. One for those criminals they had evidence on. Most of those were caught and prosecuted quickly. So much so that the top ten had shoplifters and bail runners for minor offenses on it. The other list was the one that caught his attention.

It had ten villainous masterminds that had never been connected to their crimes in a way that could be proven. At the top of the list was a woman that lived a lavish lifestyle at the expense of others. The sad part was the IGP needed her to save the world. It was no exaggeration.

A truly evil mastermind had gotten his hands on a scientific genius from the back water planet called Earth. The scientist had created a device that could destroy a planet, but he had run, after hiding the weapon on Earth. Their immediate problem was the device was hidden somewhere in the evil master mind’s compound on that same backwater planet. They needed a truly capable thief to retrieve it, and Shawnie was the best there was.

Everyone knew it was time for her to make her bi-annual play at a casino and Jerod thought he knew which one. IGP officers were scattered at various casinos looking for her. Jerod knew he would be the one to find her, no other option was viable. He was good at his job, and he’d learned to think like a criminal genius.

Chapter 1

Searching

Jerod was gathering the last of his supplies and personal luggage. He had a ship to catch to the outer reaches of the galaxy. Shawnie might think she wasn’t following a pattern, but he was sure he’d discovered one. It was his hope that he would take her by surprise.

Her picture was in his wallet as well as in his bag. The IGP officer was smart enough not to go off that alone. She was known to alter her appearance which was extremely unique. Somehow, her genetic makeup was a mixture of races known not to intermingle. It was a mystery to those that did not know that she was created in a lab just as the woman herself was a mystery.
