Introduction
Before We Begin…
You need to know you are not alone in the battle. Depression is the number one leading cause of disability worldwide. In a recent report, the Anxiety and Depression Association of America states that an estimated 40 million American adults, age eighteen or older, experience depression each year,
1 and that number continues to grow. Depression is a crushing illness that pays no attention to age, nationality, gender, social status, or skin color. Women are especially at risk—one in eight women develop depression at some point during their lifetime.

Yet in spite of these overwhelming statistics, you also need to know there is hope. You may not feel hopeful. I understand. I too was in a pit of depression. I couldn’t see any way out and believed the darkness would never end.
