Distant Cousins - Tlhogi Setati
INTRODUCTION
This book aims to offer the reader motivation, a way to a whole new life and a business perspective.
The cousins, poets of this book, were born in Brits, North West Province, South Africa, but far apart in different cities. They encountered each for the first time at university. During their first year, after regular meetings in the university debate team, their stories turned up similarities that led to their realisation of their cousinhood.
Their differences and similarities led to them draft these 50 poems. Twenty of the fifty will guide you through their backgrounds and their shared wisdom; their pains and happiness as tertiary institution students and visionaries.
Tlhogi's choice of study was civil engineering. Thuto enrolled for entrepreneurship. These differences are embodied in the other thirty poems, which send a strong message to dream chasers and students and, importantly, offer answers to why a student should study entrepreneurship or engineering, if faced with the choice.
Remember, engineering and commerce are major lines of study of choice in any education institution that accommodates the two.
This book will take you through the hustle of the cousins and where they are headed. In between you will get to know about the struggle of students and dream chasers. It’s all based on the visionaries’ individual perspective.
THE 10 POEMS
The 10 poems touch on the topics to which we can all relate, whether you’re a teenager, university student or young adult. This section of Distant Cousins takes you through the issues affecting our everyday lives.
The poets give their opinions on topics that have become part of their own lives.
Tlhogi Setati gives his philosophical version on life’s misfortunes… and, guess what, most importantly the good fortune. Thuto Chopo joins the fun, giving his thoughts on topics that the world as a whole has been avoiding.
This collaboration serves to enlighten those surrounded by darkness. Through art we bring the light to those who wish to see the end of the tunnel and eventually live a meaningful life.
BELIEF SYSTEMS
Tlhogi’s Version
Forgive us our trespasses
By Your Fate
We are separated by oceans
- O Lord
My people are praying for your Blessings
Let it rain, Let it pour
- O Lord
Your people are segregated by religions
Help them unite and recover
- O Lord
War has erupted due to a difference in beliefs
We know from Biblical evidence that there’s
Only One Almighty
Help us out
- O Lord
Forgive us our trespasses
- O Lord
With that being said
The Power to stay faithful
Will come from your Mercy
Christianity in Africa is business
We will not be segregated in Africa or anywhere
