Job Interview - Alexandre Clarke
Introduction
This book contains proven steps and strategies on how to successfully pass even the most challenging of job interviews.
A job interview is neither a causal meeting of friends nor a heart to heart conversation in an informal setting between peers. Rather it is an opportunity to sell yourself, an opportunity for your employer to evaluate your skills and have to offer and above all an opportunity for you to evaluate your potential employer. It is as such imperative you prepare beforehand for your interview. This book will take you through all the important steps and possibly give you an unfair advantage during your interview.
Thanks for reading this book, I hope you enjoy it!
Chapter 1: Before the Interview
There are many keys to succeed in life and projects that you seek to undertake. But at the very top of the list, and arguably the most important, is planning and starting with an end in mind. Your objective while attending a job interview is to land a lucrative offer of placement in the company or organization. After landing an offer, you can choose to either accept it or decline if you see fit. There is also the option of negotiating the terms of employment.
But here is the thing; you cannot toss around these options in your head before or during the interview. You have to land the offer first – this cannot be stressed enough. Uncertainty will shift your focus on the job interview resulting in poor results.
But while an interview is a process that should be taken seriously, you should not be sad and glum. It has the potential of being a life changing process yes, but it is not by no means a funeral. Have fun during the interview and bear in mind that you are interviewing the panel and employer as much as they are evaluating you. That said, relax and prepare for the upcoming task.
What to bring
Landing a job interview deserves congratulations. In all honesty, the hardest part is already behind you. Getting a call to an interview is a sign of three main things:
The organization/company feels like you could be the best fit for the position they have available.
Going with the papers you sent, it seems and they believe you are qualified for the job.
You have to prove yourself the best choice – number one from the candidates invited for interviews.
Interviews, contrary to common belief, are more of preparation than execution. As a matter of fact, experts put the percentage of preparation and execution of interviews at 80% and 20% respectively. So your success in that job interview starts when you get that call. What you do leading to the interview greatly affects the results.
That said, below is a list of things that you pack before closing the door behind you and driving to the interview.
Copies of your CV
You never know the number of people in the interviewing panel. Also, you can never be too sure if they will make copies of your CV well in advance. Since you cannot leave anything to chance, be prepared with several copies. It will earn you some great preparedness points. All you have to do before you make these copies is that it is up to date and tailor-made for the job you are interviewing for.
