About this ebook
This book started as a series of separate writing pieces that were eventually woven together to form a fabric called The Y in You. The question is, “What’s the ‘why’ in you?” Why do you? Why would you? Why should you? Through the pages in this book, you will gain the confidence to be you, and understand the very power in what being you can produce. From philosophy to personal experiences, from existential considerations to the very nature of the human experience, consider who might be waiting on you to be you.

To a man of wisdom and strength, until his transition from this life to the next, who knew more than I did, saw further than I did, and guided me to where I am today.
To a man that loved and valued education so much that he achieved his doctoral degree at the ripe age of 71.
To a man that I called Daddy
who is now in heaven.
Thank you for taking the time to bring out the best in me. I dedicate this inaugural book to you, knowing you’d be proud and probably be wearing a similar grin on your face, like the day of my US Air Force graduation.

To my mother, Margaret Jones, thank you for continuing to be such a great support in all that I undertake.

Expressions of Gratitude
To my Aunt Mary, who went through the initial script of this book with a fine-tooth comb and straightened out every crooked path, thank you.
To the 12 years’ worth of students I have taught and the relationships that have been cultivated through time, thank you.
To all the educators who continue to work in the trenches, thank you.
Preface
I’d like to first say thank you for picking up a copy of this inaugural book. You may be wondering the context in which this book was written. Let me assure you that it will likely make you think, reflect, question, and consider new ideas or perspectives. Most of all, I hope it causes you to act, to be. I hope that somehow you are encouraged through the anecdotes you will read in these pages to keep pushing to be the best (and only) version of you.
I quickly realized that our unique traits are essential to our individuality and is necessary because it creates an opportunity for you to see the good in others, as well as to be able to offer unique experiences and understanding to those unlike yourself. In this tangled web we weave called life, we all have stories that should be told. Imagine the impact you would make if you told your story. Consider that one individual, who decides to keep persevering because your story gave them the courage to do so. Consider that group of teachers just entering the field of education, who will encounter challenges you may be able to curb or assist with because of your unique experiences.
This book started as a series of separate writing pieces that were eventually woven together to form a fabric called The Y in You. The question is, What’s the
why in you?
Why do you? Why would you? Why should you?
I hope that through the pages in this book, you will gain the confidence to be you, and understand the power in what being you can produce. From philosophy to personal experiences, from existential considerations to the very
