About this ebook

It was my fourth stint at Redimere Island General Hospital, the one that had finally earned me a
“code-red patient” status and the second time someone from the apartment complex had made a
call to the cops over my drunk raving squabbles, saying, “You guys gotta hurry, I don’t want to live in a place where some guy killed himself.”

>>Follow the story of Yaya, as he deals with finding meaning in his suffering and fights for his mind

The burning blue fire of the blow torch moving closer had caused a flurry of thousands of
images, videos played in a fast-forward mode, and articles to be scoured within inches of a
second.

>Follow the story of Zero, as it learns what it is to be human

They Find Out What Their Lives Are About

    Chapter 1

Andrew and the Costs of Love

I followed his voice to the living room. What’s your problem?! You can’t do this!

I found his father, Bob, my step-dad, standing over him; Max was sprawled on the floor—bloody. Max didn’t understand animals like I did. They could sniff blood out from miles away, and Bob moved with the slow, deadly grace of a tiger that was starving. It was hard to tell whether he was eyeing Max’s throat or his busted lip and nose.

What did you say?! Bob had screamed back at him, brandishing a belt in one hand and bruised and bloody knuckles on the other. He took a slow, calculated step forward. "I can’t do what?"

I’d heard the sound of birds chirping…

    Chirping birds…What a laugh.

The story about my affinity for birds starts with regularly scheduled programming.

A funny, loveable, hard-working man, who means well for the betterment of his family, is the show’s protagonist.

Whether it be getting the kids toys they really want, playing the unsung hero in working not to hurt anyone’s feelings, or just being there when his family needs him to be, the father is a central character when it comes to sitcoms.

When I wasn’t watching stories about dads doing their thing, I was at school, and when there was down time, I listened to all the other kids’ stories. Their fathers took them where ever, for whatever vacation; they bought them this and that for their birthdays.

At some point, I’d had enough and had a sit down with my mother, telling her, I think it’s about time I got a dad.

After choking on her coffee, she asked me what I was on about.

"Look, Mom, I’m getting older and older every year. I know the tooth fairy isn’t really real, though it still wouldn’t have hurt you to pretend and give me some cash anyway." I’d felt I’d always been good at being witty with how I spoke.
