INTRODUCTION
Queensland is my favorite part of Australia and after you read through this reference, you’ll see why. Not only is Queensland the second largest state in Australia (four times the size of California!), but it has everything you could possibly want in a vacation destination.
Beautiful beaches extend along nearly all of Queensland’s coastline, known as the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, as well as idyllic islands. There are more than 100 islands off its coast, including Whitsundays, Stradbroke, Lady Musgrave, and Fraser Island.
What’s more, there is a huge expanse of Outback and spectacular rainforests. This means a lot of wildlife and much of it can only be found in this part of the world. In fact, Queensland has the greatest animal diversity in Australia. There are dozens of species of kangaroos and 150 species of lizards, as well as cuddly koalas, enormous emus, and predatory crocodiles. There are many wildlife reserves, sanctuaries, and zoos where you can hug a koala, hand-feed a kangaroo, and handle a snake.
And, of course, there is the world famous Great Barrier Reef, which can be explored in a wide variety of ways, such as glass-bottom boat tours, snorkeling, paragliding, and scuba diving. The Great Barrier Reef is the largest living thing in the world and can be seen from space! The reef includes more than 400 kinds of coral and 1,500 fish species. You will dive or snorkel alongside manta rays, sea turtles, and you can swim with whales, if you so choose.
There are several terrific theme parks that all ages will appreciate, such as Aussie World and Movie World.
For those seeking thrills and adrenaline rushes, there is plenty of that, including rainforest canopy tours, white-water rafting on Class III & IV rapids, hiking, skydiving, camping, cultural excursions, bridge climbing, rock climbing, scuba diving, snorkeling, bungee jumping, and bushwalks. Queensland is home to the six Great Walks of Australia.
Nature lovers will delight in all the options with 200+ national parks and five World Heritage sites. You won’t want to miss the Daintree Rainforest and Mount Bartle Frere. Outback Queensland is home to all things dinosaur. We’re talking dinosaur museums, dinosaur trails, fossil digging, and more. It’s a great region to go on an epic road trip, visit quirky museums, explore some amazing national parks, and much more.
Additionally, there are plenty of shops, boutiques, and malls; restaurants, bars, and cafes; resorts, a scenic railway, small towns, and remote places where you can stay and play throughout Queensland.
The best part is you will have great weather during your travels because Queensland is known as the Sunshine State.
This is because they average 261 days of sunshine annually. The only negative is that Queensland is so big and has so much to offer, that you will have to pick and choose your activities and attractions unless you have an extended period of time and unlimited budget.
Read on to discover some amazing adventures, exciting experiences, and intriguing places…
