Chapter 1
Blood dripped onto the floor. Bodies were strewn across the room. My clothes were covered in their blood. I sat in the middle of the room frozen with shock. I couldn’t remember exactly what had happened to them nor could I remember why I felt weak. Somehow sleep started to pull me under into darkness.
I awoke in the hospital, in clean clothes, and alone. A shadow passed my door and I could hear people talking but couldn’t hear what they were saying. Hello?
My voice sounded hoarse and shaky. The door opened and a man walked in. He was tall, built, but not overly so. His hair was a dark brown and his eyes were a deep green.
Do you know where you are? Do you know who you are?
He asked me. His voice was calm and silky. I nodded and winced when a jolt of pain shot through my neck.
Who are you?
I whispered. The man reached into his coat and pulled out his wallet.
Detective Jasper Anderson.
He flipped open his wallet to show me his badge. I see. I know that you’re going to ask me about what had happened to my family but I don’t remember.
My voice was slightly clearer than before. The detective frowned slightly but then nodded.
I understand. If you remember anything, anything at all, you give me a call.
He set his card on the bedside table and left.
A few days later, I was able to get up and walk around. My voice no longer sounded hoarse. The pain in my neck was gone. The doctor had said that it looked like something had bitten me. That’s what had caused my blood loss.
Since I was doing better, I could go home. Detective Anderson had brought me some of my clothes from home. He said that I couldn’t go home just yet so I’d be staying with him at the local motel, code for: I’m staying there alone and he’ll check in on me. Thankfully its only for a day or two.
I got out of the hospital bed and walked over to my suitcase that was set on an empty chair beside the bed. I opened it and smiled at the sight of leather. Slowly, I pulled each piece of clothing on. Tightening the lace strings on my blouse just enough to show off. My pants and shirt showed off each curve and perfection. I spotted my thigh- highs by the door and walked over to them, then slipped into them. I zipped the black boots up and pulled them up to their full height. Then, a memory hit me.
I zipped my boots up and tugged them up. Wow. Did you dress up just for me?
He asked me calmly. A shiver raced down my spine. I looked into the mirror and smiled. The black clothes complimented my green eyes and raven colored hair. You wish you were that powerful.
I said with a laugh. Then, pain shot through my back as I was thrown across the room.
I came back to the present. A gasp escaped my lips and I bent over, trying not to hyperventilate. I heard the door slam open and someone approached me quickly.
Are you alright? What’s wrong
The detective asked me. After a few moments, I was able to catch my breath. I remembered something but I don’t know what to make of it.
He nodded but didn’t leave. I stood up straight and turned to face him. Concern covered his face but when then it disappeared when he saw what I was wearing. His eyes trailed up and down my body.
Detective, I know I look ravishing and delectable but can you not look at me that way? I am only seventeen.
I said with a teasing voice. His eyes snapped to my face. I shouldn’t have done that. Forgive me. Oh, and you’re eighteen now. Yesterday was your birthday.
With that, tall, dark, and handsome, left.
A smile danced across my lips but quickly faded once I realized that I had forgotten my own birthday. After the events that had happened a few days ago, I thought only about that, and somewhere along the way, I had forgotten about my birthday.
I laid the hospital gown on the bed, closed my suitcase, picked it up, and left the room. Detective Anderson was talking with the receptionist, probably flirting with her. She was a young woman, blonde, blue-eyed, and beautiful. I rolled my eyes and walked up to them.
I’m here to sign out.
I said calmly, ignoring her cough when she saw what I was wearing.
I already signed you out.
The detective walked away from the receptionist and I got the hint and followed him.
Chapter 2
The car ride to the motel was extremely quiet. I attempted conversation many times but failed every time. I sighed in relief when we pulled up to the motel. You’re already booked in. Here’s your key.
He handed me a key with the number 25 on it. I got out and walked to the back of the car. The trunk popped up and I retrieved my bag.
How long until I can go back home?
I asked as I shut the trunk. Anderson got out of the car and started to walk toward the rooms. Annoyed that I was given the silent treatment, I huffed but it somehow turned into a menacing growl. Anderson stopped walking and turned around to stare at me.
I shook off my confusion and walked up to him so that I was standing only two feet away from him. I asked you a question, Detective.
My voice was filled with malice. He nodded. We’re almost done. You should be able to go home tomorrow.
He glared at me.
A smile spread across my face and I walked all the way to the last door. It had my room number on it. I put the key into the keyhole and turned it. The lock clicked. I twisted the handle and stepped inside.
The room wasn’t spontaneous but it would do for now until I get home. The wallpaper was a brown-cream color and the room itself looked dreary. I put my bag on the bed. At least there’s a TV. and my own personal shower.
I whispered as I sat down on the hard bed. Anderson closed the door behind himself as he stepped inside.
It isn’t much but it’ll do.
He said. He sat down in a chair that was across from the bed. I decided I was tired so I unzipped my boots, slipped them off, and began to untie my blouse. The detective watched my fingers move as they undid the ties.
Ah, what do you think you’re doing?
Anderson’s voice quivered. I sighed. I’m tired so I’m going to get comfortable.
Once the blouse was untied I slipped it off. His eyes closed quickly. A giggle escaped my lips. Then, a memory pulled me from the present and into the past.
I opened my arms for my master, my vampire. He stepped into my arms and brushed my hair away from my neck. Then, he bit deep into my flesh. I moaned but felt at peace. I could feel my blood being taken from me but I didn’t care.
Someone touched my arm, bringing me out of the memory. Anderson stood in front of me, concern filled his eyes. I fell back onto the bed. My hand touched the spot where I was bitten. A shiver went through my body. The concern on his face turned into something else when he saw my fingers trace my lips and neck. I’m alright now, Jasper.
I whispered, my voice husky. Then, an idea occurred to me.
The detective left me alone so that I could get some rest. I pulled the covers over me and waited for sleep to pull me under. Before I
