Preface

This story was written a long time ago, and reflects who I was as a much younger man. While the atmosphere and some of the characters are based on real life experiences, ultimately this is a work of fiction. Names, characters, businesses, places, events and incidents are either the products of the author’s imagination or used in a fictitious manner. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental.

Chapter 1

Y our suit will be ready next Wednesday morning Mr. Framingham. I’ll call you when it’s ready.

I hung up the phone and turned toward the door as the bell rang. My coworker Kirsten greeted the customer while I turned my attention back to the appointment book. Only one more fitting this afternoon, then I’d leave for the day.

I’d taken a year off from design school to learn more about tailoring. While the rest of my class were bent upon being the next celebrity designers, I wanted to make my mark in men’s suits. Design school was much more interested in dress design, not offering much in the way of men’s clothing. Taking a year off to learn tailoring through hands on experience seemed like the best way for me to learn what I needed to know, and so far I was getting an excellent education. On the downside I was missing all the usual parties, and even if you love your job, it’s still work.

Justin. My boss’s voice boomed in my ear, causing me to jump.

Are you okay son? Brandon, my boss laughed. He was a frail old guy with a loud, bass voice, so you never heard him coming into a room, but when he opened his mouth, it scared the hell out of everyone.

I’m sorry sir, I laughed, I didn’t hear you walk into the room. What can I help you with?

Brandon reached up with his hands and straightened my tie, then placed his hands on my shoulders.

I have been called away by an emergency, or at least that’s what my sister claims it to be. Brandon smiled, then looked me square in the eye.
