No Room at The Inn - Ken Reynolds

    Introduction

I’ve got an axe to grind with my fellow bartenders. It has to do with service and the mindset thereof.

One evening, Daniel, a friend of mine, waved (more like a twist of the wrist) his near-empty MGD bottle at Joe, the bartender, as if to indicate that he was ready for another. A minute or two later, when both Joe and Abbey (the manager) were serving that end, he waved the now-empty bottle again - in plain sight of both bartenders.

Next thing you know, Joe gestures to Abbey, grabs a flashlight and lowers his 240+ pound frame to the floor. Abbey plays along and they’re both on the floor, pretending to look for something under the cooler. You see anything, Joe asks as they stand up. Nope, not a thing, she replied. They laughed together at their cleverness. One of them eventually got an MGD for Daniel.

The performance was designed to send a message. Which message, I’m not sure, but the following came to mind:

    - Of course we saw you but that’s no way to order a beer.

    - We’re people too.
