About this ebook
Rod meandered down the main street and spotted Hilary’s Hut. It looked warm and inviting as well as busy. A few cars parked out the front and a lot of the tables were occupied.
He entered and was greeted by a young man wearing an apron holding a notepad and pen.
“Good evening sir, how can I help?”
“A table for one please”.
“For one, yes, we have one table left for two but it’s way over on the far side of the room near the back window.”
That’s perfect”, replied Rod.
Turns out it was the best seat in the house as there was nearly a 180-degree view of the western sky and the evolving sunset. Rod sat down, and the waiter gave him a copy of the menu.
“Something to drink sir?” asked the waiter.
“Ah yeah, a glass of Chardonnay please,” Rod said.
“Just the house wine tonight?” the waiter asked.”
“Yes thanks.” Rod replied.
He was still half asleep and in a bit of a haze. Rod stared at the sunset and the sky, then at the empty chair opposite. A feeling of longing hung with him as he stared at the brilliantly, colorful skyscape. As dark fell over the land in front of him, Rod wondered, “What is on the horizon of life for me?” In his peripheral vision he saw a figure coming toward him from the bustling room full of people. He looked up with tired blurry eyes. It was the waiter. Was he coming to ask for Rod’s order? Being so engrossed by the colorful sunset, Rod hadn’t had a chance to look at the menu.
“Your wine Sir,” said the waiter holding a tray with the glass of Chardonnay. Rod stared at the waiter blankly.
“Excuse me Sir, your wine.” He repeated.
As he shook himself out of his meditative state Rod said, “Oh thanks. Sorry I was in a dream.”
“Ahh... no problem Sir,” he said with a smile. “Um, may I ask a favor of you?” said the waiter nervously.
“A favor?” Rod said. “Oh, ah, yes sure what is it?”
“Would you mind sharing your table? We are totally booked out and there is a lady who, like yourself is just wanting a table for one and there are no more tables”.
“Would this be ok with you? It’s fine if it is not, we understand if you would rather dine alone” the waiter continued nervously.
“Lady? What lady?” Umm, no, no please I mean yes, sure no problem that’s fine.” said Rod stumbling over his words.
“Thank you so much Sir, we really appreciate it,” said the waiter with relief in his voice.
With that problem solved the waiter’s nervousness dissolved and he spun around eagerly and hurried away. Upon returning all Rod could see was the smiling waiter with his notepad held close to his chest.
The waiter once again said, “Thank you so much, we do so appreciate your understanding and help.”
Somewhat puzzled Rod replied, “Sure, not a problem.”
Rod tried to look through the crowd to see who his dinner company might be however, there was nobody that he could see that might be the mysterious lady. “I must be in a daze, I’m not fully awake yet. I’m dreaming. Yes, that’s it. This is all just a crazy dream.” Rod muttered to himself. Then the smiling waiter stepped to one side to pull out the empty chair revealing the woman who was standing directly behind him. Looking into the light, all that Rod could see was a silhouette, an outline. A dark slender female figure. He had to squint to focus. The room was dimly lit, and it was hard to get a good look at the lady. Rod blinked a few times and finally the lady came into focus.
“Hello.... hello? She said leaning forward bringing her face into the light. Rod stared into her bright, clear, bold, blue eyes, blinking and trying to focus more. Rod was taken aback by her striking good looks. The lady looked at Rod with an intense but concerned smile, head slightly tilted.
“Thank you for sharing your table,” she said.
Rod slightly dumbstruck said, “Oh, um... sure, of course, my pleasure.”
“Is everything all right Sir?” said the waiter, with an air of concern.
Rod still a little flustered replied

Chapter 1 The Journey
On a long and winding road somewhere on the dry, dusty, lonely track, a man sits reflecting on his lot in life. His name is Rod. Rod is an I.T. contractor. His work sees him traveling to remote destinations all over the beautiful and sometimes harsh countryside. His expertise is fought over by companies needing the excellence of a master onsite tech that aren’t locally available. If hardware breaks down Rod goes out to remote locations to repair or replace. It’s a lonely job and involves a lot of travel. Sometimes by plane, but most driving from site to site, town to town. While travelling he has a lot of spare time to day dream. He thinks about all manner of things. Sometimes he fantasizes about an encounter with a woman that holds similar passions and desires. How wonderful that would be, he ponders. We would chat over dinner or evening drinks. Then retire to a room for the night. That’d be heaven. It would certainly ease the burden and loneliness of his current occupation. After a long arduous ten-hour drive Rod pulls up in a small town and books into a motel for the night. The job is nearby and will take about four hours to complete all going well. He plans to stay overnight and head home in the morning another ten-hour drive. He has all the tools and some parts required for the job but the main circuit board was not available at the depot so it was ordered from the city warehouse and would be delivered and ready for pick up from the local post office in town. Rod enters the
