About this ebook

This book is a collection of devotions that the lord has laid upon my heart
I am not Theologian or Bible Scholar, but am however a man of GOD who
tries his best to follow the Word of GOD and allow GOD to work in my heart.

God will move on my spirit from time to time and give me a word or scripture that moves my heart. I will take that and allow GOD to move me in the spirit and develop a devotion based on that
word or scripture.
It could be a result of something I read, something I saw, a news story, or anything in life. I get led by the spirit and begin writing the devotion.

I felt lead to share my devotions with the world, in hopes that they might help lift someone who may be struggling with their faith or a personal issue.

I hope you get something from these devotions.

I ask GOD to bless you and keep you in your daily life :)

Devotions From the Heart
Author

Dwight (Ike Spike) Welsh

I am a Veteran of the United States Army with 5 children (1 deceased) I recently returned back to GOD about 4 years ago from over 30 years away from GOD. He has given me the ability to put into words (both Poems and Devotions) what He has inspired in my heart. I am by no means a theologian but I do write what GOD inspires me to write. I get inspired by various means; it could be a scripture I read or hear, It could be a song, it could be a conversation, it could be something in the new,.... I allow GOD to inspire me and then I write what He has given me to write. May GOD bless you and your families and may HE continue to work in your lives.

In the World Not of IT

Today I want to talk with you about a subject that has been close to my heart and on my mind a lot lately. This world we are in today is in trouble. There are those that only want to do what feels good or what isn’t offensive to others. I truly believe that we are in a time of Falling away from the Scriptures, both by every day people and by (unfortunately) some churches. They seem to want to live in and of the world, but NOT of the WORD. I am talking about being IN the World, but NOT of the world. There is a distinct difference that the Bible makes when it comes to being in the world, but not being of it.

Several verses mention this point. The most notable is probably 1 John 2: 15 – 17

¹⁵ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

¹⁷ And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

As is noted in these verses, GOD admonishes us through John that we are not to love the world or the things that are in the world. He tells us that the things of the world are of the flesh and not of GOD and that the world will pass away, but IF we abide in the will and law of GOD we will not pass away with the world, but have everlasting Life with GOD in Heaven.

In Romans 12 verses 1 and 2, God tells us through Paul,

"¹ I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

² And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

That we are to present our bodies to GOD as a living sacrifice, and that we are not to conform to the World. But are supposed to be Transformed through the Spirit of GOD and that by doing this and allowing ourselves to be Truly Transformed we can prove what the good, perfect, and acceptable will of GOD is. He tells us that ONLY by being truly transformed and NOT conforming to the lusts, temptations, standards, ideology of the World, we can be a true vessel for GOD and show His love, mercy, and majesty. How do we do this?

Today it seems that a lot of people want to have the friendship of the world (society) so that they can say they understand what others are going through and that they want to help them through their ministry. The only problem with this is that James tells us that being a friend of the World is being an Enemy of GOD.

    In James 4: 4 – 5 James says

"Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

⁵ Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?"

We cannot work for GOD if we are trying to befriend the World. You cannot lust after the things of the world,
