    Chapter One

At the start of the gravel driveway, Jackson slowed his car to a stop. The small villa peeking through the trees was finally all his. An impatient toot alerted him to Joanna behind him. Laughing softly, Jackson waved and started off again. Can’t blame her. She’s been itching to come out and see the place since I said I’d finalized the deal.

The carport he’d pulled into was basic, just a roof over four posts at the side of the villa. It was just one of the things Jackson needed to work on. In fact, there were quite a few things he wanted to change.

Fortunately, it was only mid-October, halfway through spring, and, there were no major jobs that were needed inside the house itself. If Jackson could get the work done in the run up to Christmas, then he could enjoy the summer on his brand-new deck overlooking the magnificent views at the back of his new house.

And if the builder Jackson had hired was half as good as his friends’ recommendations, that’s exactly what he’d be doing.

With a wry smile, Jackson glanced at his reflection in the rearview mirror. As soon as the decking is done, then I need the sails in place. Sun sails to ensure there would be plenty of shade were essential if he was to enjoy being outside.

Nice views, but it looks a bit small. Joanna was already out of her car, standing beside Jackson’s, and peering intently at the villa.

Ah, but you’re seeing it with your eyes firmly in the present. Jackson got out of his car and stood beside her. "And you haven’t seen inside yet. It goes back a good distance."

Right then. Joanna nudged him with her elbow. Let’s see this dream home you’ve bought.

Here we have a small porch. Jackson mimicked the way he’d been taken around the property by the realty agent, and Joanna snickered. He indicated the strip of deck that ran the length of the front. I’m thinking of a swing chair at one end, and I’d like the far side from the car port to be extended to allow for a breakfast table and chairs in comfort. It’s fine for just sitting, but this way you face the rising sun.

Okay. Joanna nodded. That sounds good. I can see that.

Inside. Jackson opened the front door and indicated the first room on the left. "Master bedroom with a tiny en-suite. Just a toilet and washbasin but
