    Preface

The main aim and objective of this book is to help guide you to transform your life and position yourself so as to experience growth, abundance, freedom, love and peace.

The first 7 chapters unpack the emotional dynamics of life: Emotions that hold us back regularly; how these emotions are maintained in the mind through our thoughts; and how we contribute to our own sense of suffering, lack, failure, pain and feeling that we are lost and stuck, because we don’t know our purpose.

As you read the first 7 chapters, you will be able to identify emotions that torment your life but, at the same time, you will learn that you don’t own these shortcomings. They are just mental programmes that can be deleted, so that the new ones can take charge.

The final 7 chapters form the core of guiding you to move from what holds you back, to what serves you well. You will learn in these chapters that you can transform your life by just switching on a few buttons. The process to switch on these few buttons requires effortless mind-work.

This book is here to enlighten, inspire, teach and guide you. It is transformative in nature if you practically apply its guidance.

To achieve maximum intended results, it is recommended that you start at the beginning and go through all the chapters in their order of arrangement. Each chapter is a build upon the preceding one. After that, you can use it as a reference guide, revisit any chapter that resonates with where your life currently is. The material is comprehensive and easy to understand.

This book is written specifically for each individual, young and old, professional and non-professional, male and female; anyone who has that burning fire within themselves to transform their lives. It is not a religious book, nor does it speak religion; however, there are certain scriptures from the Bible that are quoted due to their relevance to the topic.

It is for someone who knows deep down in his or her own core that he or she has more to give to the world, but doesn’t know what to give and how to give it. It is for someone who always feels that he or she is somehow inadequate and is not sure what is or is not right. It is for those who have always felt that they need to step into their God-given destiny and purpose, but just don’t know how to do it. It is for those who have been dreaming of building a life of purpose, a life of greatness, a life of meaning. It is for those who feel emotionally drained by unpleasant life challenges and think that giving up on life itself is the best option. It is for someone who has many ideas, but finds him- or herself in the same position over and over again. It is for someone who has been living with feelings of shame, guilt, fear, anger and pride for a long time. If these kinds of feelings have successfully found a home within your mind and are causing pain in your life every day that affects your physical, mental, financial, spiritual and relational areas of your life, then this book is for you.

This is a powerful book that has been written through the help and power of Holy Spirit, and I am sure that it is going to touch the right hearts and minds that are ready to embrace transformation.

    Introduction

Romans 12:2 (NIV) says: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the Renewing of your Mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s Will is - His good, pleasing and perfect Will."

The moment you make a choice to make that necessary transformation, that’s when God’s Will about your life becomes clear to you - and you discover your purpose.

What is the mind? It is a miracle. It is at the core of being human. When we start with the transformation process, we have to start with the renewal of our minds. Why? Because our thoughts and beliefs are directly stored in the mind, therefore we are going to require a new way of thinking and perceiving our internal and external worlds.

The mind is that part of us which governs all our internal affairs. It instructs the nervous system, the muscular system, the skeletal system, the cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, excretory, endocrine, exocrine, renal, reproductive and immune systems. These systems all work together to maintain the functioning of the human body. All information that is created and processed using any of the bodily systems, originates from what we hold in the mind.

We will learn in this book that the moment you choose to hold onto the pattern of this world, then suffering, lack, pain, chaos, confusion and certainly unhappiness persist. What is the pattern of this world? It is what the world has taught you and me. Your survival tool-kit according to the world. It is the conditioning or programming that started from when you first became aware of your existence on earth; what, as an infant, you were told and taught by your well-meaning caregivers.

From childhood through to adulthood, what you were told, taught, saw, heard, felt, experienced, learned and accepted as the truth, which was acquired from family, friends, neighbours, your environment, colleagues, teachers, pastors and the world at large, became your conditioning. What you know about yourself is what the world has told you about you. It is a sad reality - one that emerges again and again when I sit with individual adult clients in a Personal Transformation Coaching session - that many of the life problems that adults face today are as a result of their early childhood conditioning. You find someone asking: "Why am I not loved by anyone? Even strangers, who see me for the first time, seem to immediately find something that makes them hate me." Or someone else will make comments like: I have been promoted at work, but I don’t think I am good enough for the position. I am afraid that I won’t know how to speak like a leader, or even make people listen to me, or: "I never attract good men. Every relationship I get involved in fails because men cheat on me all the time. I no longer trust men. Men will always betray you."

If you listen to all these examples, you will notice one common invisible thread: the pattern of this world - judging oneself according to what is generally accepted by society; trying to find love from outside of oneself; looking for solutions in one’s life that are external to oneself. Haven’t you ever heard someone say: This is what we should do. If we don’t, what will people say about us?"

Renewal of your mind is a continuous process. It is a process that requires commitment and complete trust that your Creator will be with you throughout the process. It is a process of unlearning all that has been blocking you from living the life that you were created to live and fulfilling your true purpose in life.

As you can imagine, in your information tool-kit of life, you have a lot of equipment and resources that you have been using your whole life, but now you find yourself being challenged to drop some of those tools because they are not serving you well. You find that these are the things that you are familiar with; they are all that you know. You’ve seen many people using them and you use them yourself. You have even taught your loved ones to use them. Now, suddenly, you embark on this transformative journey and you realise that you need to Let Go of many of them!

However, I have learned, through my own life lessons, that Letting Go is only possible when you first Let Go of the Resistance to Letting Go.

    Chapter One

How You Used Your Mind to Create Your Life Circumstances and Current Reality

    Mind 101

Let’s kick off by understanding what the mind is. This book is not meant to provide technical information. Please allow me to just create a basic understanding, so that you all can be clear about what the mind is and its role in our everyday existential reality.

The mind can be defined as a set of cognitive faculties that include consciousness, perception, thinking, judgement and memory. It holds the power of imagination, recognition and appreciation and is responsible for processing feelings and emotions, which, in turn, result in attitudes and actions or decisions.

For us to clearly understand the mind and its functioning, we need to be clear of its formation. Biologically, you can downsize your body in the following manner: Body systems (e.g. the central nervous system); organs (e.g. the brain, the heart, the kidneys, etc.); tissues (e.g. nervous, connective, muscle & epithelial); and cells (e.g. neurons, blood cells, skin cells, etc.). According to Quantum Physics, energy is a property of objects that can be transferred to other objects, or converted into different forms - heat, sound, electrical, light, chemical and gravitational, etc. - but it cannot be created, nor destroyed. Everything in the physical universe is made up of atoms. Atoms are made up of subatomic particles, which are known as Protons (positive) and Electrons (negative). When we look even closer, we see that protons and electrons are made up of even smaller particles, which are known as Neurons, Gluons, Quarks, and Mesons. Ultimately, these particles are Electromagnetic Vibrational Waves of light, known as Quanta. Everything that exists is made out of quanta particles.

Every single cell of our bodies is made up of molecules, which are made up of a cluster of atoms. All that scientists can find to date inside of an atom is a lot of empty space, and a few protons and electrons. At the centre of the atom are only waves of light, which is energy vibrating at a certain frequency. Thus, our physical existence is fundamentally energy vibrating at different rates or frequencies. The molecular structure, as well as the frequency at which different atoms vibrate, is what separates things and makes them unique. This is why blood is different from muscle, even though fundamentally everything is made of energy. In the same way, everything else in our physical universe is also made of atoms. This means that your book, your chair, your car, clothes, buildings and everything else that is physical, is made out of atoms and is fundamentally energy. This includes the invisible air that we breathe; it, too, is made out of atoms and is therefore energy. The most important thing to learn here is that the differentiator of things, living or non-living, is molecular structure; they differ only in their frequency of vibration.

For decades, scientists believed that we only had neurons in our brains. Deepak Chopra, in his book called Quantum Healing, published in 1986, proved that neurons are everywhere in the body. In fact, every single cell of your body is bathed in neurons. Neurons are cells within the nervous system that transmit information to other nerve cells, muscle, or gland cells. This means that your brain can communicate with any part of your body, instantly.

Recently, we have been learning of growing evidence from scientists and consciousness psychologists that our thoughts are being communicated to all of our cells, all of the time. Our mind both produces and is affected by energy. Like other cells, our brain cells produce molecules in which energy is stored. When the bonds of these molecules are broken, energy is released for the cells to use. Neuronal cells in the brain also produce electrical energy from the flow of charged particles, or ions, along the length of the cell when it is activated. Those electrical signals spread out from the brain in waves that can be recorded in the form of electroencephalograms (EEG). One of the products of the electrochemical activity of neuronal cells is thought, or what we know of as the mind.

From the point of view of modern physics, your observation, i.e. your perspective, expectations and focus affects the way energy manifests into physical reality. Your attention has the capacity to direct the behaviour of energy. In the traditional Asian understanding of energy, this is described as energy following the direction of your mind; energy flows to whatever the mind concentrates on. The greater the strength and length of focus, the more energy will go into and towards what the mind pictures. As it concentrates, energy becomes denser and leads to the creation of your internal and external reality, both in your body and in your life. Therefore, what you are thinking is important for creating positive transformation in your life.

    The Conscious and Subconscious Mind

The mind is a powerful part of your existence, because you use it every day to direct your reality. It is divided into two parts: the Conscious and Subconscious mind. These two are not physical divisions of the mind; they are used to distinguish different characteristics of how the mind functions.

Consciousness is a state of being aware and awake to your present environment - your here and now. Your conscious mind can be described as that part of your mind where you are aware of what is going on around you. For example, when you say, I am hungry and I am preparing food for myself, it means that you are conscious of your hunger, and what you need to do to curb your hunger. You can even go further by making a choice of what you wish to eat, and where and how to get that food. Your conscious mind will help you to act on what you need to do to resolve the feeling of hunger. This is the part of your mind that is thinking and reasoning. This is where your intellect and free will resides. This is the part of your mind that gets to decide the changes required to live the type of life you want to experience.

The Conscious mind constitutes as little as 5% of the mind. One of its functions is to accept or reject ideas. It is like a gatekeeper; however, it can focus on only a few things at a time - a maximum of three. It has a limited processing capability of approximately 2000 bits of information per second. It is time bound. It considers the past, the present and the future. Conscious impulses can travel at a speed of 200-225 km/second. The conscious mind controls only two to four percent of your actual perceptions and behaviour. It is also known as a goal-setter, because every time you decide to set goals, you consciously think of what you desire and you consciously make a choice of how you plan to achieve it.

How the mind works is really a miracle. You think things, then the mind organises all those thoughts to create a perfect outcome of the
