The Proposition

The constant click click click of fingernails on keyboard reminds me that I’m at work, dammit. Wherever I’d been in my mind came to an end, without a postcard, without a lousy t-shirt.

The working woman is Anna, an older attractive red-head who sits at the desk next to me. Every day. For 8.5 hours. Her smile should be illegal. Not because she’s smiling at work, which, frankly, always makes me wonder what I’m doing wrong, but because her smile is contagious. She works with a fire I do not feel. She’s like thirty years older than me, in her fifties, and age has been very good to her.
