Author

Guthema Roba

Guthema Roba currently works for the Hennepin County library. He was born and partly grew up in Ethiopia, East Africa, before he immigrated to the United States.  His book Please Come Home is a collection of  mystical poetry that remind us to live in the present moment. He says life becomes a prayer when fully lived and celebrated each day. Good poetry, he adds, is the one that brings us closer to our heart. He writes poetry on a daily basis and lives in Minneapolis with his wife and daughter.

Turning these poems into a book wouldn’t be possible without a continuous support and love from Astroid, my precious wife, and Homa, my darling daughter—I am truly blessed with you.

I am deeply inspired and moved by the guidance, presence and deep insight from the following friends: Fred LaMotte, Sattva, Helene Averous, Kristy Thompson, Kathryn Graham Wilson, Cezarina Trone, Barbara Jean, O.M. Rohr, Mulumebet Beyene, Shel Brook, Jana Dular, Chinmayi Celina Sochaczewska, Mary McMahons—and many more whose names I have not mentioned here.

I also extend lasting gratitude and love to the staff as well as friends of the Golden Valley library for supporting the flow of this poetry.

I am grateful to Finote Tibeb Literary Center in Minneapolis and Edge Life Magazine for publishing my poems in your publications.

To the great staff of North Star Press who published this book—your goodness has always touched my heart.

On the path of spiritual growth and self-inquiry, the following beloved poets, spiritual teachers, mystics and saints have deeply helped me ignite the fire deep in my being that has always been present and also to recognize the same in everyone I come in contact with: My eternal gratitude to Rabindranath Tagore, Krishnamurti, Kahlil Gibran, Herman Hesse, Jalaluddin Rumi, Hafiz, Mirabai, Walt Whitman, Meister Eckhart and many more whose names are not mentioned here.

I bow to everyone who comes to hold this book—you are holding eternity, something that is going to wake up the sun in your own heart. Blessings.

    Mystery to your own mind

    Force of life

    The door of your being

    Roses and moonlights

    When the mind is still

    Piece of stone

The one whose eyes are open

    Knowing your life’s purpose

    Dissolve into me

    On the edge of existence

    The seed of goodness

    Be kind

    Infinite splendor

    Beyond this sky

    Love me as yourself

    Fear makes you blind

    Your body

    Worth kissing

    It is possible

    Flow towards your voice

    Direct merging

    Because you are enough

    Speak of light

    What comes from the origin

    Sense of deficiency

    Acute hunger

    Beyond the form

    How much caffeine

    Zero interest rate

    There are days

    All that is nourishing

    The one who has forgiven

    More closeness

    Promise me today

    Tender house

    Here is not a place

What does a rose need to bloom?

    Making a living

Who is sitting closer to you

    Our being here

    The horse

    Running away

    Glow

    Come closer to me

    Like innocence

    Endless splendor

    No substitute

    An opportunity

    Grapes into sweet raisins

    Come

    Like Bird

    Be fresh air

    Walking on the red carpet

    With all your breath

    The only path available

    The direction

    Wild flower

    Until you become the sea

    Bridges

    River of wine

    Dissolve more—

    Your hermitage

    Wake up and roar

    A simple act of kindness

    The way I love you

    Inner harmony

    Divine dance

    Absolute tyranny

    Original seed

A single sip from your joy

    Free from memories

    Sometimes

    In the world

When we gather for a dance

    Where poetry can grow

    The real wild one

    Stay close to your smile.

    Meeting obligations

    Open the door

    The flute

    Forgiveness

    A thousand dark caves

    Vanish into sunlight

    There is only this love

    All-consuming sweet fire

    Sacred bread

    Original simplicity

    Flow

    Luminous beings

    When you change

    Earthdance

    The beginning of time.
