Chapter One
The stormed reeked on through the night as endless needless fell from the sky. The constant pouring would never let up as it would appear lost to the deep end. The shadows continued to mount the night intrigue and death as the lights from the lightning endangered the visible light. Strike by strike the storm fulminated as it would be out of control. The slippery waters fell to the roads shifting the trails of the oncoming cars and trucks down the highway. A black Sudan moved against the colliding storm as it was hell bent through the night. Inside a man with dark chocolate hair, a brutish appearance, and steel gray eyes. He wiped one of his hands with his face trying to concentrate on the road as the other held onto the wheel. He turned on his turning signal then moved the car into gear to get off highway. The water beat against the car shield.
He quickly moved into the exit lane. The lights of the other cars passed him by as he turned to a mysterious road and path that held weird shaped signs. He turned off his signal light and went straight. Sometime later he continued to drive then stopped as the light blinked on his dashboard. He glanced at the blinking light of his car showing a service light. He sighed then turned looking up to see a house in the house. He comprehended that it was far too late and needing some rest. He outstretched his arms in the car and frowned at the tight spot. He peeked to the back to see his suitcase. The man pulled the small suitcase from the back to rest in the other seat. The storm continued to rage against outside as looked through his windshield. The darkness of the sky mounted everything else in a haze. He quickly got out of the car and sauntered to large Victorian house in the distance.
Without an umbrella, the rain poured all over him like saliva, the man grimaced as the sounds from the highway were faint echoes that were fallen away. The muggy clouds continued to chip at the free stars showing in the distance. He moved closer to the Victorian house seeing it in flashes from the thunder striking a nearby pole. Sparks splintered against road. The man shrieked then hurried up the decaying steps. He studied the lightning merging into another cloud. He turned to see aged wood, holes in other parts and cobwebs in the corner of the hidden spaces. The lightening crackled against the clouds once more. The thunder struck down again like a soulless dog. He marched closer to the door and touched the doorknob. He saw a doorbell to the side and ringed it a few times. Silence continued to favor as the seconds went by. The thunder struck a nearby tree splintered it down the middle. The man pressed the doorbell a little harder as the winds blew to the north stimulating a snapping manner against the flesh.
The door creaked a little and the man wiped his forehead from the nameless rain. He opened the door a little wider, holding onto his suitcase, and entered in. Darkness continued to center throughout the foyer. He set his suitcase down looking around to try to make out the place. Dusty furniture and covers were placed on large items. He sighed looking toward the direction of the light flashing from the lightening penetrating into the house. He moved forward to find a light switch to turn on.
Hello?
the man’s voice carried a sharp boorish taste from the absent liquor hours earlier.
He studied the area once more sensing nothing there. Strange sounds whisked in background and the man glanced around hesitant of himself and felt lost. His hand moved to find a light switch and he turned it on. The lights slowly came on in a few seconds later. He looked around to see furniture covered by duvets.
I suppose this will do for now. No one seems to be home,
the man crossed the room and pulled a duvet off one of the couches.
Dust flaked off creating a haze. He raised his hand to cover his mouth then coughed incuriously. He looked down at the couch covered in plastic and rolled his eyes at the irony of covering a couch in plastic already. He sat down and leaned his head against the couch. He had drove many miles and hasn’t stopped for rest.
As his eyes began to drift to sleep, a creaking sound came down from the stairs. He quickly moved to sit up and heard the tapping of the railings coming closer. The hairs on his back stood up as he stirred back to reach for something that would assist him. He stepped back moving to a fireplace. The large overbearing stone fireplace towered him. The man turned his head to see the ominous mouth-like that stared at him. He saw one of the fire pokers in the holding case. He quickly picked it up and
