About this ebook

Day 15 (I think)

Well, we've survived. I don't know how and I don't know why. Except to give credit to Cass. What has the world become? There are precious few survivors, and no way to contact other survivors, according to this small group we've found. There is no radio, tv, or internet. No one has been able to reach anyone by phone. The phones work, it's just that no one answers.

About sixty people holed up in a roadside rest stop. This is no way to survive. Most of us never leave. This is no way to live. But out there means certain death, or worse. This is what humanity is reduced to. A few remnants living underground. How did we fall so far, so fast?

Follow Gabe and Cass as they survive the apocalypse and fight across the country to reunite Cass with her family... if they're still alive.

    Previously on Survivalist Bible:

I must’ve fallen asleep. Next thing I was aware of, I woke up when my head unceremoniously slammed into the window. Cass was pulling a sharp turn.

    WHA... I MUTTERED groggily.

There’s a rest stop back there. I thought I saw phone booths!

She revved the engine, gunning into the rest stop. There were a dozen cars and I began looking about for the infected, as I had begun to think of them. This many cars, there were bound to be some.

I was surprised to see a bank of phones by the building.

This is a bad idea, I insisted as Cass pulled her gun out and refilled the clip.

Keep it running. I’ll make it quick. Cass flung the door open and was gone before I could respond.

There was nothing I could do but sit and watch. I kept watch, looking out for monsters coming from the woods, from the building, from the road.

Cass picked up the phone, and after a few moments leaned her head against the booth. Her body quivered as if she were sobbing. My heart broke for her, but my mind was wondering what she had heard.  I was so caught up trying to figure her out that I missed the movement in the woods.

Then there was a horde of them coming out of the tree line and charging at us. Cass didn’t seem to notice. I froze, not knowing what to do. Blasting the horn, I cringed as they seemed driven to new speeds by the sound. Cass looked up at the horde coming at her, but didn’t use her gun. She turned toward me, her face a mask of terror.

I scrambled into the driver seat and shifted into gear, trying to go over the curb. Nothing doing. Kicking it into reverse, I slammed on the pedal and was shocked when the vehicle slammed into something behind me. Glancing back I saw even more infected! They were streaming from the woods across the road. Where had they all come from?

Shifting into gear and slamming the pedal again, the SUV leapt forward and jumped the curb with bone jarring thuds, launching me at Cass, who was running toward the building. It was probably safer than the vehicle, I guessed. It was certainly closer to her, even with me barreling toward her.

For a moment, I wondered if it would be smarter to veer away from her and get the hell away from here. But she’d saved my life, more than once. I was ahead of the horde and hoped I could reach her before they reached us.

She hit the doors and pulled hard, but they didn’t budge. I was close enough now, and so I slammed on the breaks, spinning the wheel thinking we would be able to drive right out if I angled us right. It always worked in the movies.

I guess the speed was too much, or I pulled too sharply on the wheel, whatever the cause, the vehicle rolled and I slammed into the roof. We were royally screwed now. The world spun and flickered.

Gabe! Cass was pulling me through the windshield. Hurry, get up! and then there were other hands on me, pulling at me. I thought it might be the infected. I tried to fight back,
