    Introduction

Cocktails are a weird and wonderful thing. They are an art and a craft, a skill and a joy. They can turn the most mundane ingredients into a wonderful tipple, and transform the most throat-searing spirit into a smooth sipping experience. In short, it’s a talent that few possess, and even fewer can master. But, you’ll be glad to know that most bad cocktails are a result of insufficient knowledge and training, and that with a little bit of both, you’ll be able to mix a better drink than ninety percent of the bars you walk into.

So, I’m sure you’re dying to get started, and there’s a lot to cover, so let’s get to it. We’ll begin where all great journeys do – at the beginning.

    The Hardware

When we talk about hardware, we’re not talking power tools, though the pieces of equipment we’ll be covering will certainly allow you to complete the right jobs in the right way. Great mixology is about efficiency and knowledge – two things you can acquire through practice and reading. The latter we can help with, the former is on you.

This section will cover all of the bar essentials, and a couple of other things you might want to get hold of, that will let you mix cocktails that any mixologist would be proud of.

    Cocktail Equipment

    Shakers

The shaker is to a bar-person what a badge is to a cop. A proud vestige of their trade. Something shiny to flaunt and spin while they smile at customers.
