He vaguely remembered the existence of basic steps, techniques that would have recalled others, simultaneous activations of several spheres with the evocation of one of them.

However, first he had to put his head in order, clean up, and restore his mind.

He began to stare at a point: a dark spot on the opposite wall of the room. This was one of the basic exercises: staring as long as possible without looking away and thinking about something else. He knew he would have to fight with the thousand thoughts that would come running to fill his mind and he would have to drive them away to keep it clear and empty.

He remembered, as he saw them arriving, that they would gradually become stronger, more important, more impelling. Here are the first ones, trifles, small events of the day, memories surfacing from a spontaneous association, small tasks; and now necessities, things to do 'immediately', phone calls, communications, expenses, commissions for which he really could not waste time, he could not stay there doing nothing. Finally, considerations, thoughts sent away with more reluctance, but which he would have liked to fulfil, memories from a more and more remote past, which he had not thought for so long and, not paying attention to them, they would have been lost for many years to come. Moreover, under these thoughts, the needs of his body, even these were strong at the beginning, but afterwards, being ignored, they tended to decrease. The immobility was against the need to change position, to scratch himself; to fight against many small nuisances usually ignored and that here became bigger.

Just stare at the Point; the rest comes by itself.

His mind became again docile, ductile, and more acute. He knew that he would need more sessions; that this would not be enough, but he began to feel the effect, to recognize old sensations, like the directional Energy one, which follows a focused thought, even without direct actions amplifying it. The muscular tension due to immobility was somehow sublimated to constitute the channels of this Energy, which were starting to awaken.

He blocked these ideas in an instant, and restarted staring at a point, which was only in his eyes and in his head. Other applications would come later, even using the same technique; for now it was enough for him to stop at this stage, his goal was to obtain clearness.

His mind wasn’t completely closed; it allowed moments related to the techniques re-enactment and to the suggestions connected to what he was doing. Earlier this would have been difficult to filter.

He blocked his thoughts but allowed himself to memorize some notes related to the technique. Actually, they came by themselves, as he used to do in the past; he took note of them later on. The same for other Spheres involvement: a steady hand in mid-air blocked the thoughts on one side (on the side of the mind from which they were arriving), the visualization of a bubble around them made them slide back, and so on. However, they were small concessions: in that moment, he was only interested in regaining control.

He insisted on the same, simple, staring action.

The rule required him to stop when
