Introduction
1 - Live without the worry of debt
Debt is really not something to worry too much about. If you owe money to one of the big financial institutions, or perhaps a small company or even an individual, they all have one thing in common. And that is you have something they want and by any principal you wish to apply, that puts you firmly in driving seat. If you are in debt you should be in charge of it and if you are it is easy to manage on your own terms, after all you are the only one who can give your creditors what they want. This book aims to show you how to do just that, and stop worrying about debt.
To begin with, let us put something into perspective. At the time of publication the UK National Debt stands at 1,511,217,823,386 (That’s just over one and a half trillion) of your hard-earned English pounds and that figure is increasing, at the time of writing, (13/09/2014) by one million pounds every four minutes. You can check for yourself where that figure stands at the time of reading here; www.debt-clock.org - Now, divide that amount by the current population of the UK and it means that every rich man, poor man, beggar man and thief is in the red (in relation to the national debt) to the tune over seventeen thousand five hundred pounds, each. And in America, that figure is even worse. Far, far worse.
Now hopefully that puts whatever debt problem you have right now into some sort of perspective, so let’s start dealing with it, from that perspective. In recent years it has become far too easy to slip into unmanageable debt. Everywhere we turn credit companies try to convince us to borrow and buy, and when we run into trouble with one set of repayments another company will lend to us again and again, and again. 'Buy now and spread your payments' or 'Fast Free Loans' has been the tone of many adverts. Even worse the one that reads ‘Worried about debt? Take out a loan’
With so much money available and interest rates as low as they have been over recent years, finance companies and banks have been competing hard to lend us their money. Everywhere we look we are being offered credit cards, consolidation loans and free finance and with such persuasive advertising it is not really surprising many of us take them up on their offers. Couple this with a lack of real job security, in many cases the lack of any job at all, and lots of us soon find ourselves in big debt. You are not alone; there are millions out there, in fact hundreds of millions. And as for the banks, well look where that policy got them in the end. It isn’t your fault.
However, and because of this, millions of people are now faced with court action or the threat of disconnection, followed by the lure of new debt to pay off the old debt. None of us want to lose our homes, cars or bikes. None of us want the debt collectors calling around and none of us can relax when the bills and nasty letters are piling up. But is it entirely our fault? As you are reading this book it is safe to assume you are in some sort of debt so be assured you are not entirely to blame.
You must not see yourself as a financial failure.
Your creditors also have some responsibility for this and that is why we mustn’t let them have it all their own way. Start by feeling positive about the situation you are in. One thing you can be sure of is that somebody somewhere is deeper in it than you are. And, like them, you can get out of it; In fact you have already started.
You are about to find out all you need to know that will solve your problems and allow you to rest easy, sleep well at night and forget all about them. More importantly, you will learn in plain English, just how far your creditors can go, what you can do about it, how much you can get away with and how you
