INTRODUCTION

While back in my High School Years, a drama unfolded in the midst of one of our Inter-Collegiate Athletic Competition. One of Ghana’s best sprinters, who had won a lot of laurels for his school; bringing it to the zenith of Athletic Competition, left the school and was admitted to another school. Before long his Former School was to compete with his current school in an athletic competition. Students of his former school were threatened and sensing defeat and failure; they devised a means to discourage this famous sprinter from running and winning the race against them.

These Students brought a filthy bed sheet, soaked in urine to the stadium—it was alleged to have been used by this Athlete while he was in their school. They accused him of wetting his bed in the school and the bed sheet was their evidence. They were trying to use his past against him. Before the competition began, these students hooted and jeered at the Athlete and gave him names in order to frustrate and discourage him from running the race.

On the other side of the stadium echoed cheers from students of his current school holding placards with inscriptions to boost his morale. So turning a deaf ear to his opponents, and focusing on the cheers of his fans, the athlete focused his desire toward obtaining the PRIZE AT STAKE.

God calls believers into some form of race. Since we have been translated from the kingdom of darkness unto the kingdom of God’s Own son; the devil and his cohorts seek means (such as our past sins and mistakes; problems and the systems of this world) to distract and discourage us from entering into the heavenly course to win the prize set before us.

This book has been written to prepare you for the race you have been called into, and to equip you to run to win. I believe this book will help you start your journey; give you the keys to run the race and win your prize against

all odds! This athlete, motivated by the cheers of his supporters and the prize at stake, was able to outrun his competitors in the 100meters race-shattering the National record, and going on to become the 100 meters National champion; winning the gold metal prize.

It is not enough to merely enter the race. We are called to run for the prize. This calls for a prepared mind to run according to the prescribed rules, and to finish the race. I have seen people start the Christian race with strong faith and zeal, only to end up backsliding and rejecting the faith. Some started the race in the spirit, but ended up living lives of carnality and lukewarmness’. They forsook their first love, lost their zeal, and stopped doing their first works of righteousness. These started well, but finishing poorly or failed to finish at all.

God’s desire is for you to run the race set before you. If you have slowed down, lost hope, or quit, l pray that as you read through these pages, you will hear the voice of the Spirit compelling you to get back on the track-and run to win!

CHAPTER ONE

Destined to Win

With nothing but a small egg of a bird in his hand after long hours of toil in the forest in search of bush meat, this hunter decided to come home; consoling himself with the tiny egg in his hand. Supposing it was the egg of a chicken, he placed it in the pen of his chicks. At the appropriate time this egg was hatched and what came out of the egg began to live its life amongst the chicks. It learned chicken behaviour and scratched in the chicken yard with its siblings. It ate the food of chicks and conducted itself as such. Unknowingly this bird was not a chick but an eaglet

One-day mother eagle flew over the area this eaglet was being housed and gave a loud shriek. When this eaglet heard the shriek of the eagle, it registered within him that it did not belong to where it was—among the chicks; but its place is
